Went into garage this morning to fire her up as i the first turn went a poof of smoke(no not me) came out of the top left of the bike under the handlebars, sort of steering damper, radiator area. Now there was no psssssss noise when it happened or anything but the bike was turning and not firing. Did what i normally do when this happens switched lights off and she fired.

Now there are a couple of things i think it could be...

Radiator - Havent a clue why.
Oil - Needs to be changed (booked in saturday).
Petrol - I put V-Power in last night.

The smoke only came out once and smelt weird lol, so it wasn't just random smoke.

Just went out and started her up now and no probs etc, which leads me to believe its oil or radiator.

Thanks in advance guys.

Wow thats wierd,

Mine did exactly the same yesterday, although the smoke seemed to come from the left hand side of the tank, I have checked the wiring under there and cant find anthing, and she has ran fine since...if you find out what it was let me know!

sounds more like somethimgs shorting to me mate with the trouble you've had with the electrics, check the wiring loom where the smoke came from and at the points where its moved frequently when the bars are turned, as it could be shorting to the frame or from one conductor to another

i thought not, but it could have been the downpipe, but i guess you would hear it blowing?

take tank off, & inspect wires,

sorry, not much help

Im sure mine was electrical,

There doesnt seem to be much wiring on the left side though (when sat on bike) the right side seems to have a loom with a few connectors going into it. Tank will probably need to come off to check properly..stupid question but how o i remove the seat to get the tank off:confused:

remove the 2 black side pannels with allen key, then you can see the allen key bolts holding the seat on

Two left triangular panels under seat first then you will see the screws to the seat to take it off.

then 2 bolts at top of tank, so the tank will lift, as there is a hinge at the bottom, you should have a long metal bar under the pilloin seat which will prop the tank up......... if not just use a bit of wood, or somthing

Sure it wasnt the carbs spitting back on startup? That could blow some smoke back through the airbox which would come out from under the tank.

You don't remove the black panels but hinge em back. Unless the plastic rivets at rear of panel have gone awol.

I don't reckon it's electrical. A fuse would have popped most likely or it would be continuing doing it. Possible spit back in carbs although not sure how the smoke is getting out (answered in Biggles post)
