Thanks for the votes in the August comp, I will kick this one of by suggesting the theme of:

Dawn or Dusk

Here is an example of what I mean:

A wonderful sunrise across the Teesside skyline!

Now lets get posting!

I know it doesnt look very dusky but trust me it was actually getting quite dark, it was taken in NY city in july on me trusty camera phone.

Was a tough choice deciding which one to submit but decided on this one cos I like the atmosphere of it :) It was taken at the Wickerman festival last year and it had been really misty all day and we got the most amazing sunset...

TC3's looks more like a "night shot" than a dawn/dusk shot, in which case I prefer Amanda M's photo - wicked sunset :D

Well I never thought I'd learn quite so much just by joining the org :D LMAO

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusk

I stand corrected TC3 ... in fact, if anything ... most of the other pics I can see are all "confusing dusk with sunset" ;-) so technically, yours is the most accurate photo ;-)

Cheers,
Pete

lol mines not it was early morn in Norway, when the sun is setting it is also raising for someone else so it could be taken in mid sky and still be raising

i think its composed really well and the exposure is about as spot on as you get with very little light, not much grain or digital noise either
IMHO it was either done on a very good automatic camera or you know what your doing,
top marks in my book mate :D

if your kicking out pictures like that mate and from the equipment your using, you MUST start ( if you havent already ) getting your work published..
if you have never considered it before i can point you in the right direction as im sure others on the org could too, just ask mate if your interested

although im not saying anyone elses is rubbish VERY far from it. all the work on here is Exceptional
scottish rawker : alot of your work that i have seen has been impressive, i like the soft light used to highlight your shilouette subject :D
EDIT : Just looked at your sv pics too.. liking them alot very urban look to them slow shutter looks ace too!
those tokina lens are excellent, infact ive never known one to barrel or ghost..

i'm liking this thread alot! :D
EDIT: to be honest my work at the moment has been ok but nothing amazing.. took some at bsb donnington which were okay.. but looking at these threads i might, put more effort into my photography and start submitting my work again.. lol, i kind of lost the buzz when i moved jobs..
so thanks to you all !

thought so, although i thought it would of been the gold side for the warmth lol,
i used to work for jessops when i was 19 - 21 and that was ace because evrything was about photography, and i started freelancing for Horse and hound, then i moved jobs and it died off.. horse and hound still call me ever so often but i havent done anything for them to use.. i got bored of shooting nags however expensive they were...:(

Ooh, I like sunset photos - here is one of my favourites.

Took it in SW France this year, on the Atlantic coast. Point & shoot Canon Ixus camera, no fancy lenses/filters/software - would love to get a Digital SLR and all the gear at some stage.

Just a thought, dangerous I know. BUT....
Is there a way to get these pictures put in a gallery, with thumbnails so it can be easier to vote on. Something where we can leave a comment, i.e. vote for, and so it should be easier to count the votes too at the end of the month.
Maybe even posting it to a different site or free picture gallery area.?
The reason for my thinking is that each time someone posts a pic I think, ohh that is good, maybe I should have voted for that one instead . Infact how does the Admin of the photo comp count the votes? Is it a difficult and time consuming job? I'd have thought it being in a grid/thumbnail format with a little 'count' of the amount of votes/comments recieved would be a lot easier.

anyhoo, thats my 2 penneth!

Some of these pics are fantastic.... Far superior to some of the work our students produce....... Which gave me an idea!

I'm working for the Open College of the Arts in Barnsley

www.oca-uk.com (http://www.oca-uk.com)

and I am currently organising an Art Auction in aid of Barnsley's Exodus Project http://www.exodusproject.org.uk/

to be held on 16th November 2007

If any of you would like to donate a piece of Photographic work - preferably framed (not clip frames), signed and dated bottom right, to this worthy cause it would be gratefully received.

I know - I'm a cheeky cow! But if you don't ask, you don't get. Right!!!
