why would an ambulance have a speed camera on?

if it was on call i.e. flashing lights then they can report you, they may have camera's but not sure if they can produce what speed you are doing.

I have overtake dozens of ambulances (not to mention police cars) and I have never had any problem. I imagine if you go past at really stupid speeds whilst mooning them, they might radio it in, but do you really think they have nothing better to do than bust a couple of bikes for speeding? These are people who save lives for a living, not just harass innocent motorists, like members of another emergency service...

No you won't get done. Ask your lawyer pal to go fetch you a left handed screwdriver, 'cos he's either full or cr*p or he's yanking your chain!
Besides if some high ranking civil servant had had so much as a wet dream about putting a speed camera on an ambulance, MCN would have reported that it was signed and sealed legislation months ago.

he is a laywer
He's not a LAWYER, everyone, he's a LAYWER :smt045 therefore can be forgiven for not knowing the truth here. What is a laywer, anyhow?

I expect they would just say 'we'll be picking him up not long' or somesuch. I doubt they would bother and anyway as members of the public it would be their word just like any other driver would it not? And its rare anything seems to come of that. Unless they felt you endangered them.
Mind you, you may have been a little naughty ;)

I reckon the key question is "Did he have his blue lights on?"
If he did then that is when they would potentially get arsey with you and complain to the polis cos of the potential for obstruction further down the road. (Cage drivers are the main issue with this I think though)
If not then you should be ok i reckon.

I got pulled over a few months back by a copper for over taking an ambulance with his blues and two's on, and this was on the motorway when he was in the middle lane and i was in the fast lane so i was not obstructing him in any way. So if you do it just don't let the police see you.

If his lights are off, its just like any other road vehicle, so you can legally overtake. An no, they don't have speed cameras on them, the ambulance staff have other stuff to deal with!

I "got stuck" behind an ambulance that was on a call (lights & sirens) on my way home from work earlier this week actually. I pulled in to let him past and then just followed him all the way down the A537.
I say "stuck" because although I could have overtaken him, I didn't want to impede him, and it wasn't really quite that bad because, if anyone knows the A537 it's a single-lane carriageway and there's not a lot of places to overtake safely so I slotted in behind him and just "slip-streamed" past all the cars that probably wouldn't have pulled over quite so far for ME (but then I don't have blue flashing lights, LOUD sirens and the word "ECNALUBMA" written across the front of my vehicle! LOL).
Shame his emergency wasn't further up the M6 cos it was back to waiting behind "I own the outside lane" to$$ers over the Thirwall Viaduct!!

the quickys are always the best
When the traffic is bad, and I can see an ambelance coming behined me, i try to clear the way in front to give him an easier path behined me ;) Usually people looking in mirrors may see my headlights, and see the blues coming up after me.
As soon as it gets closer though, I pull over and let them straight past. I don't impeed their driving in any way.

i followed a tafpol volvo down the A30 on my way to lands end, not with his lights on though - nice steady indicated 85-90mph all the way. after about 15mins he lit up and shot off, didn't bother following him, got a few miles down the road and saw him parked up and thought i was in for it but nothing materialised...
have overtaken an ambulance, in my yoof, doing 30 in a 40 limit, without exceeding said limit, what a nobber:rolleyes:
No, ambulances don't have speed cameras on. Why would they?

Speed cameras on board ambulances - Absolutely not!
Operating mobile speed cameras is a complicated legal process where the vehicle has to be parked and set up correctly. There are no such devices on ambulances that could record, for legal purposes, your speed whilst both vehicles are moving.

I have overtaken fire engines, ambulances and an unmarked police car. I dont recomend the last one at all, other 2 never had a problem.
Legal people must bend the truth otherwise they would always agree and can you imagine that in court ... your client is guilty .... i agree.... case closed. How would they get paid?

Strongly doubt it had a camera on that would legally be able to be used as evidence for prosecuting you - the balance of cost and hassle vs how many people it would catch is ludicrous.
Overtaking an ambulance (especially one on call) is bad taste though. Stick close behind it and let it clear a high speed path through the car-driving morons for you, that's what I do. Police cars are good for that too, plus you get the bonus that if they're on a call they have no interest in you tailing them at 90+mph. Only done that once but what a joy...

Ditto - no problem. Ambulance, Fire and Police don't seem to like each much from my experience so probably wouldn't do anything anyway unless you were being really silly. I would also think that ambulances will have enough to worry about.

I've always had problems following emergency vehicles as I find that people pull in behind the ambulance/copper/fire engine without actually looking if anything is following it. This seems seems ironic if it's an ambulance you're following!

Just a word of advice for those who like to "follow" emergency vehicles through the traffic.Dont.Best thing is to just get out of their way and let them get out of your space and away.Tailgating an emergency vehicle is very dangerous and can be very embarrassing.Especially if the vehicle stops, driver gets out and has a go at you in the middle of a three lane traffic jam.:o

well - i spend my working life as a paramedic in london and i can tell you that there are no speed cameras fitted to ambulances. my employers dont have enough cash to provide us with uniform most of the time so believe me they wont be spunking any money on cameras.
tailgating any vehicle on an emergency call is not the best idea - as there are usually 2 people on ambo/panda car and the passenger can just look behind and take your plate number (if in a car obviously) - believe me it does happen.
and about overtaking an ambulance on a single carrigeway - if were on blue lights, we may think your a pr*ck but we dont have the time or inclanation to spend reporting you to anybody - provided of course you dont cause an accident or we end up attending to you a little further down the road when youve overcooked it :)
oh and the police and us have a good relationship - but neither of us like the brickies :)
