Bike in Bus Lanes Petition - Action?

Following from the Home Office petition which read:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Allow the use of "Bus Only" lanes by scooters and motorcyles throughout the UK."

With the reply:
"...Bus lanes are the responsibility of the relevant highway authority. In February 2007, The Department for Transport issued new guidance in the form of a Traffic Advisory Leaflet 2/07 on "The Use of Bus Lanes by Motorcycles". This makes clear to local highway authorities that it is open to them to decide whether or not to allow motorcycles to use bus lanes and encourage them to make an objective assessment of the issue..."

So... has anyone, or does anyone know of anyone, who has requested their local council about getting the issue changed, or had any success?

Not sure, but when I signed that petition is was denied because

"bikers will cause delays to the bus routes such as traffic lights"

So a motorcycle is slower from the lights than a load of cyclists????????????? (if they were following the law and had actually stopped for the red light in the pre-set cycle zone, at the bloody front....)

They didn't reject it... they just passed the buck to local authorities.

So... I'm considering taking the buck to my local authority, and wondering if anyone else has done the same, and suceeded.

Well warrington borough council and cheshire county council have both stated that bus routes are for buses only, doesn't stop car drivers from using them though!

I dunno man. In London even the cars ignore the bus lane rule so it's fair game for all!

Yeah, thats the way I play it.

I got caught on a new camera once, that was a mofo...

But otherwise, its safer for bikers, its safer for pedestrians (more time to react instead of seeing them as they walk out on you).

Be weary of busses as they have cameras.

be weary of "hardcore" type cops, those central london types who ponce around in Mercs and BMW's acting all "dat" :lol: Panda cars I don't worry about.
