Is there much to do there? I've heard its all sky rise buildings and building sites?

Has anyone been, anyone advise anything to do there?

It is all sky rises and building site, but the place is so massive now the front and centre is well developed.

Amazing place go on holiday.....but dont go there to work.

A couple of uni mate went out there, the working atmosphere is bad, the rich are very rich, but the poor are very poor. And working in 40+ heat whilst holiday makers are sunning on the beach opposite isnt all it cracked up to be either apparently.

Un-fortunatly, thats why im going.

Im not happy in my job at all, but they've offered me a week in Dubai to do some IT in our office out there, and i've never been to Dubai, so im not going to turn down the offer

Its just the evenings im worried about having nothing to do and being really bored.

Won't have much money either, so shoppings out the question.

Is there a drag strip out there, im sure i've seen one from one of the car events? Don't think theres any motorsport tracks out there I can nose around either is there :(

Great place to go on holiday. But don't go in the middle of summer it toooooo hot. May time is a good time to go. Very hot but bearable.
Jumeirah (sp) beach hotel is a great place to stay. Right on the beach and you get free access to the waterpark any time you want.

Sounds fantastic. Jump at the chance.
Had a hol in Jumirah beach Hilton in June (yrs ago) - HOT!!! you'l find lots to do if you get about, the water parks or town - we used taxis but also the bus was good.

Im ok with using a bus, part of the experience I think :)

So theres water parks, good good, that'll waste a few hours ;)

Im going in 2 weeks time, so hoping the weather is still ok?

plenty to do, plenty to look at. you'll be in one of the fastest growing and richest cities in the world, dont waste the chance

Watch out for them? What for a good deal?

Im looking on google earth. The palm tree land they are building doesn't look tooooo far away. But looking at pictures, not really much to see still.

Im opposite the two towers they have out there? 9th floor, WTC.

Scarey ass stuff, its a loooooong ass way to go on your own. How longs the flights out there? I reckon by distance, about 8-10 hours?

Flying out with Emirates, there was a nutter across the aisle from me. It was obvious something was wrong with him. He goes to the toilet. Next thing the alarms go off, prat had set fire to a load of toilet roll.

I have to admit, I have never seen cabin staff move as quick as they did on that flight to kick the door in. When we landed the army came on board to take him and his mate off just as quickly.

For hotel out there, I normally use Le Meridien as it is very conveniently located.

yeah stayed in the le meridien resort and spa. top notch hotel, the restaurants are fantastic in there

me and the good lady had dinner in the burj, the underwater restaurant. £320 for the two of us.

which was nice!

I know Im odd and Ive not been to Dubai, but there is just nothing that Ive heard about the place that appeals to me at all.Just a desert spawning a massive man made concrete and glass jungle where everything costs a fortune?Yuk.
A hop across to a safari park in Kenya would do it for me.

Daimo

Yeah, but if your getting the trip for free, would you turn it down ;)

Can't see the £50 per day allowance lasting me long though

You could certainly pay me to go there.:D
Then Id feel much more confidant about slagging the place off.:)

It's not bad - but I thought they could have used a better caviar in the Blinis, and the Krug was not the best of years.

Water park is outside that 7* hotel.

Can you walk in the hotel and have a look around like you can in Vegas, or is it "only come in if your staying" type thing?

keithd
05-10-07, 02:50 PM
i think it costs about 20 dirhams to go in and look around

iirc you cant take any pics other in reception - which in itself is rather impressive

when are you in dubai?

i live here and we can meet up for a beer or something. Will is out here and we catch up from time to time... we're due a beer together so we can invite hime along.

You can do basically everything you can do in london (maybe except the theatre side of things).

if your here in the next week, its a bit quieter because of Ramadan.

if you get chance go on one of the desert safari's. or get a hire car and head out towards Hatta.... its on the east coast towards oman.
