any good bike shows on TV?

Its crazy when you think the only good show we have is Top Gear, fifth gear is okay and sometimes has bikes on it.....but why is there is not a top gear for bikes?

I though about this a while ago, what would make a good bike show. I pitched an idea a few years back for a documentary film but they didn't want me producing a film. I know it was good enough casue someone stole my idea almost word for word but I never saw the end result (nothing came of I think)

What you want to see in a bike to make you sit down for an 60/30 minutes and enjoy it. It would be a lot better than reality tv crap that seems be on all the dam time like I'm a fat pie, I'm too lazy and thick to clean my house.

Just a thought but I really think there is a big enough to watch a show on bikes and hopefully get more people into bikes as well! Which is only a good thing:thumleft:

Over to you lot :smt026

You should just go and make one - I am sure lots of peeps would be interested in watching it. If I had the know how I would - even if it was just on cable or even youtoob.

I don't think it'd work, top gear is successful because its amusing, but the brainless mulch wants reality TV and soaps. Hence I doubt a bike show would make mainstream TV. Maybe Men and motors or some other channel, but there just isn't enough of us to get one going.
It would be great to have some good bike and gear reviews on, racing results and highlights, biggest feckin eejit competition etc.

I really think there is an opening for a show, but err not totally sure where it would fit in.....I think something like BBC2 would be a good platform since we all pay for it in the first place and has similar shows on it....

It should be on main stream TV so more people can watch it, not everyone has sky, I hae never had it...yer your right about soaps! Sat eating breakfast at work and You are what you eat came just as we tucked in awesome food, not what I wanted see:rolleyes:

Can i present it??!!
I think there is room in the market for a bike show, yeah top gear is awsum and funny but there is nothing to say that your show couldn't be just as entertaining but centred abround bikes. Plus with a girl presenter...

seriously though, why dont you get some funding from some local motoring companies and go for it. make sure you dont leave yourself open for someone else to steel the idea this time tho

No bike shows on TV in UK? Simple, minority audience so does not make financial sense.

you dont think there is enough people out there interested in bikes??/ Maybe there would be if they were kept up to date and informed with a tv show!!

I'd go for it!
As long as it was done better than the bike review I got with superbike magazine in June! Good grief that was tedious! Good looking bike but the reviewers are definatly made for magazine reviews and not TV stuff.
in the words of Vivieene from the young ones..."BOOOAAARRRRRRRING!!!!"

We'd definatly need something that would show ALL the various types of bikes and riding out there, not just the 'Sports' bikes.
Remember Top Gear in the 80's? It did a whole range of car reviews not the top of the range stuff it does now interspersed with good banter and odd tests to see who can turn a Hilux into a speed boat. ( I do like the show though).

Hmm I wouldnt agree with that one. Take a look at American Chopper or The Fairy Bikers. The 2nd isnt the most riveting presenting but now I think the audience has developed enough also with Ewan and Charleys promos. The other thing is MCs are affordable and take up little space - its not like doing up houses or cars so anyone can develop an interest.

Something along the lines of latest models or intersting production bikes, some testing, some news, interviews with local characters, some travel or touring sections, visits to factories, modified bikes, racing for pinks etc. The key to any of it though is getting the right people doing the presenting - I dont think it would matter to much then so long as they have some character. Personally I think Hammond or May or that old chap off 5th gear would do a good off shoot - but anyone with a bit of mouth and confidence could do it. In fact I wouldnt be suprised if we dont see something on telle over the next year.

Move over Vicki Butler-Henderson!! ;-)
If you have a better laugh than her, the job's yours!

for those that don't know ... VBH has a laugh that is girlish, dirrrrty, and sort of school-girl squeelie-like (at times). It's almost worth sticking her in a fast car (or on a fast bike) just to hear her laugh!

Damn, I've soiled myself now :-P PMSL

As it's a minority interest (even most people who watch/follow Moto GP on TV aren't really that interested in bikes enough to watch a bike show), it'd probably need to be made with a view to selling it internationally to recoup the costs. As available bikes and preferences to types of machine differe from country to country, this would be difficult. I mean, think about all those American bike shows we get, they are all concerned with customs and choppers. It'd be superb to have show about more normal bikes; tourers, commuters, off-roaders, sportsbikes, streetfighters etc. but until those sort of bikes really catch on in America, I can't see there being much demand for it.

I also see the danger element being a big no-no. Think of all the stick top gear get into and that's just with cars. Try getting H&S man to sign off (or indeed, insurance for) equivalent wacky ideas on motorbikes, no chance! That said, I would love it if they made a good one.
