SV650S Euro to UK headlight conversion.

Hi, my bike currently has a euro spec headlight with a left projector lens, and a H1 bulb in the high beam light, i believe.

When the lights are at 'low beam' just the left light is on, when the switch is at 'high beam' the right light comes on as well, i think both bulbs are 45W.

I will be getting hold of a UK spec light unit to convert to, i know the current bulb connectors arent suitable for the dual H4 bulbs in a UK unit (higher wattage), so could someone guide me through the process of converting the loom to function with the new setup?

As far as bolting on is concerned, i believe it should go straight on in place of the other, am i correct?

I have read other posts similar to this previously but cant quite picture the changes required, diagrams are always a help!

Type of bike (faired or unfaired) year of model, etc.?

It's a 2000 faired curvey model, as in the 'S'.

I've since spoke to a electronically minded freind that says the system could operate correctly by splitting the low and high beam wires to accomodate two H4 bulbs that wanted to be on all the time.

I have drawn a diagram to try to explain and attatched it.
What do you think?

I changed my light a year back, so I'm a bit rusty on it, but my personal advice is:

DON'T mess around trying to bodge the wiring. Apart from anything else, the UK lights require different bulb holders. When you come to sell the bike, it'll look exactly what it is: a bit of a lash up.

Look on e-bay or contact a scrappy, get a replacement loom - it's a little short section that replaces the Euro spec one- simply unplug one and clip in the "new" one - about 10 seconds work! There is a design change on later years IIRC, but as long as you get the earliest model, it should be OK. Just check that the bulb holder sizes are the same as on the replacement light unit you buy.

I've just found out about these beam adaptors that convert headlights to dip the other way. I will get some of these http://www.consumabulbs.com/content/eurolites-headlamp-beam-adaptors.php if they will work correctly with the SV's projector headlight, i fancy these inpeticular because you can just use the circular piece as apposed to the whole thing stretching accross the light.

Does anyone know whether these will work as required on a motorbike?
If they do i'll get these and some good xenon H1's and keep the current light setup.

it's a bit of a mare because teh wiring loom is different. I had trouble getting a loom to fit a UK bike trying to get it converted to euro spec. Best advice is get photos of your loom taken and post them up here, or get an electrician to look at the problem.
