Following on from some threads about crime and Punishment just watching this program on 5US

He's a Sheriff in Arizona and has instead of building new jails has stuck the inmates in tents, uses them to do meniel tasks including clearing rubbish from the side of the highways and giving the homeless and poor a decent funeral with at least some people there. To get any power they have to use excercise bikes to provide their own power. To incarcerate these people it cost $10K a year instead of $10 million a year.

Is he doing the right thing discuss

I saw this guy ages ago, he's brilliant. He makes them watch children's TV and wear pink it was also reported as that subdues them

That happens in my house too. Is my mrs this sheriff?

I agree with it all. What's the point in giving someone a jail sentence then spoiling them? 3 meals a day, a roof over your head, pool tables, sky tv - and all for free?

Not really on is it. There's a case at the minute over here where a fella has just been released after serving only 8 years of 16 for raping a 91 year old woman who died a few weeks later. If he got 16 he should have done 16 but in my opinion he should have had them cut off and served with gravy to himself.

I'm all for making a prisoner pay for what he has done.
