View Full Version : I A M test, luck needed.
Got my I A M test on Saturday morning, i'm now getting just slightly nervous, i am goin out with my observer for a quick brush up tmro morning, he say's i've got nothing to worry about but we can all make mistakes. i will let you know how i get on, if i don't it's cos i will be so red faced i didn't bother to go home and am hiding somewhere in the outer Hebrides.:)

You'll be fine mate. I made a couple of stupid mistakes within the first few miles on my test but the examiner could see that i was nervous to start with as everyone no doubt is.
Anyway if I can do it I'm pretty damn sure you can
Good luck!

If you observer thinks your ready then you are.
Just relax, remember your training and enjoy the ride.
All the best.
you will be fine. of course you will be nervous but examiner expecting that. once you have been out for a wee while you will be able to relax.

Your observer won't have put you in for a test if you're not ready for it. I know that's cold comfort when you have the pre-test nerves, but try to keep it in proportion, if you did fail, what's the worst that would happen? Another handful of days training and £35 for a resit; It's not like you won't be able to drive or anything like that. The examiner isn't going to be looking to fail you either, they want you to pass.
As was the case with your first test, if in doubt, ride conservatively. Far better to get a minor for hesitancy than an instant failure for something risky. On my first test I foolishly believed he would want to see "making progress" as much as safety. This wasn't the case at all and I failed due to a stupid overtake (the rest of the ride was near-perfect, that one balls-up caused me to fail). The next test I took a lot more sedately, so much so that I thought if anything he'd fail me for failing to make overtakes (I didn't actually overtake anything apart from on motorways/dual carriageways). As it happens he was a lot happier with this more relaxed pace and even commended me for not making full use of the available acceleration when going 30->60, as it showed a bit of restraint!
You'll be fine, just try to ride like you normally do.
Good Luck Dad!
Stop pretending your nervous dammit the amount of times you have waved the perfect score sheet infront of me you couldn't possibly fail. Maybe you'll decide I need a motorbike then :p

Where you going, Nic?
Thanks everyone, i'll try not to disgrace myself, nics gone to some sleazy dive with her boyfriond i guess, we never know where she is. saw the sprint at wylies, goin to av a test ride sometime without Bev knowing;).
Daryl.
So... do you have any news for us - or are you in the Outer Hebrides after all?????
Thankfully i don't av to pack my bags just yet, for some unknown reason i passed :-D. At least i don't av to pay another £35 for a retest. It was probably the most nervous i have ever been on the bike, I was told that under no circumstances was I to go over the speed limit and that he would not be using his indicators to let me know which way to go. The route was on roads i didn't know and i was supposed to remember the directions, it included at least 20 roundabouts!!! . I only took the wrong route once though and after that if i was unsure which way to go i stopped and asked him for the directions for the next stint. Having said all this i really enjoyed it (especially as i don't have to do it again) and would reccommend anyone to do the course, i now feel more confident and safe. Thanks for all the best wishes everyone, i'm sure they helped me to pass:smt023.
Daryl.
Well done that man!!! Congratulations:smt038 :drink:needed to celebrate!!

and that he would not be using his indicators to let me know which way to go.
Well done on your pass!:smt023
Not using indicators to point out the route's a bit unusual on the test, isn't it? I always thought one of the purposes of the indicator bit was to make sure you were doing your rear obs!

under no circumstances was I to go over the speed limit
Doesn't seem very valid to normal riding

Maybe not to you mate;););)
Paul, my observer said i would get one of three examiners, 2 of them allow you to go over the speed limit by 10% or so in an overtake as long as you came back down to the limit afterwards, he did say 1 of them would not allow 1 mph over, sods law i got that one. Also most of the examiners will use their indicators for a direction purpose so the route does not av to be memorised. seems i drew the short straw on the muppet i got, what a jobsworth. of course he never ever breaks the speed limit :^o.
Daryl.
Well done, bit unusual examiner, but nevertheless you passed.

Congratulations. I'd look at it as if you passed with that particular jobsworth, you definately deserved to pass. :)
