View Full Version : Baffled!
Thinking my Yoshis are too loud if thats possible, without the baffles in, and worried about the fuzz pulling me over, so questions is do you ride with baffles in or out? and have you ever been pulled for not having them in?

Baffle always out, no bother in 7 months since Fuel can put on and several visits to Wales and Derbyshire in that time :D

My can doesnt even have a baffle so always baffles out. I dont fancy drilling it to fit an aftermarket one either. Never been pulled for it but i always dip my clutch and roll past coppers around town. Did get some odd looks from a bunch who were trying to move some gypsies on one night though. they stopped what they were doing and looked to see who that noisy bas*ard was :D

:safe:hi , a mate of mine got pulled by the fuzz and he had a £60 fine and 3 points on his licence so watch out..
It's never been in and never will be, i've had a couple of plods stop and look before when i was in the town riding past but i don't know if it was a "wow nice bike" look or a "take his registration" look.
TBH i think i may be putting them back in as they are too loud.

Its not worth 3 points surely. Fuel pipes are loud with them in!!

I thought the worst they can do is give you a "vehicle rectification notice" and a £30 fine, and some have started bringing in some wierd ASBO type wrist slapping system as well?

No Baffle, No tug's from the law, never go back to one :)
perhaps i got the wrong end of the stick, but i thought i heard somewhere that taking the baffle out can affect the engine, something to do with fuel or something or other
and that adjustments would have to be made to make the bike run at optimum leve;?

It's a bit more free flowing, but only a bit so it doesn't make it go that lean

never had a baffled variety in three years..in either
They may be a little on the loud side, but, according to this months RIDE mag the unbaffled variety are better for the environment, so on that note i shall carry on deafening people in the knowledge that its better for us all if they both stay that way
That is all:smt106

Does make a difference though.
Used to have a race can on my SV, 'till I put a road legal one back on for an MOT. I noticed a boost in mid range with the road legal can, so I'm keeping it on the bike

That's REALLY unlucky!
I got stopped by a police motorbiker stopped on the side of the road with a hair-dryer, given 3 points for speeding - yet he didn't even mention my exhaust, even when he must have seen the 'for competition use only' stamp when he looked at the back for the registration plate! Very odd considering his reason for doing the stopping at that place was due to 'Complaints of Traffic Noise'. Not that I was complaining!

Well I may remove the baffle this weekend just to see how it sounds. Are the fuel ones hard to get out and replace?

When I bought my bike (almost exactly a year ago), it came with the Micron can and I didn't have a CLUE what a baffle was ... until I got it home and the bloke who lives across the road came out to see what the noise was and said, "You've definitely not got any baffles in there" LOL
So the Micron (and the bike) didn't come with any baffles ... but I DID make sure I got the original exhaust for MOT time ;-)
Original can was put back on last November (for MOT) and was not replaced with the Micron until after winter (around February sometime). Been riding it since then with the Micron on, and no baffles and not been pulled so far ... but then I tend not to rev the nuts off it whilst round town. Although I'm sure the neighbours love me when I leave for work at 6am
Oh and as someone else mentioned, if I have to pass police cars then I dip the clutch and coast past them (if it's safe to do so).
Pete
I did the bike safe course with no baffles in my blue flame exhaust. The cop I was with said it was good I had a loud can because he could tell when I was changing gear!
And if its better for the environment then I feel I have a moral obligation to pop a race can on my sv..

Managed to blow the baffle out in the south of France, so not a lot of choice at the moment, must get some more for MOT time next year.
Fuel can with baffle out, its never been fitted, even for the MOT!!!

Mine is baffles out. It's not that loud though, and below 6000rpm it's not too offensive at all. Above that, it sounds a bit rubbish and wails away in a fairly antisocial way though. But the only baffle I have that quietens it noticably is basically a cork (a Beowolf universal baffle with an extra bit of baffle from another can attached, and the main hole in the middle filled with exhaust putty), and the bike barely runs with it in.
Supposed to be fitting a Remus soon, and they both work well and sound good with the baffle in so I might leave it in with that.

Try it!! :) They sound awesome :D
I had no problems with taking mine out, but someone here had to take the can off and use a broom :D

Take the baffle out for 5 days, then put it back in - I thought I went back to the stock exhaust, such is the difference...
Currently the baffle is back in after a few days :smt077 - don't want to p!ss off the neighbors in the morning...
There was something strange happening... whenever I went for a ride with the baffle out I always had a police car in front of me...:smt104

me thinks people have a little touch of paranoia???
Or perhaps our plod have more of a job keeping chavs in line...now I've jinxed it...
However Im Indoors got pulled over when he had Suzy first fitted with the Art can, and mr plod said' suppose you've to be seen and heard..on your way before I change my mind!' that was when he bought it in 2001

Mine's in. The CCC is nice enough but I am going to take it out just to see but I'm sure it will go right back in again.

I just fitted a new scorpion titanium blue exhaust[took about 1 hour]. It looks great [cheers for the help with orgers] still have the baffles. but have already removed them to cheak. About 1/3 of the holes in it had been covered with sealant when they put it in:confused:. Might just pull it now and get out to the bike shop and spend more:p.
Again cheers for the best site around.

My fuel oval is going to be getting some angle grinder-lovin soon to carve off the scraped bit.
Should help the volume :D
I have the baffle in my Yoshi, never taken it out, but it's still louder than standard. I've had a few comments that my exhaust sounds great and it came without a road legal stamp (or not for road use one either) on it.

I leave the baffle out all the time, think its better than a hi vis vest in traffic, and theres 2 quite long tunnels on my commute in, and it sounds ace!

How common is it to get points for not having baffles? I love the sound without (and concider it safer), but being a new driver (rider) i loose my licence if i get 6 points on it.

I have no baffles in mine, and no ability to put any in (full race system). I've only ever had wry smiles and thumbs up from officers of the law so far, just waiting for december now to see if it'll go through MOT!
Is it feesible to rig up some butterfly valves to work as baffles? Good for when the fuzz pop out of the bushes with the Pay-dar gun.
Sounds like a handy mod...!
I have a dual port on mine. I have the main baffle in and the little baffle out, this seemed to be the best way to have it.
With both out the power seemed sluggish, as it is it pull really well throughout. Sound wise it is much crispier with just the little baffle out, with both out its BOOOOMMMSSSS and everyone looks, even had a mum put her hands over her kids ears.....

Yes, but never heard of it being done as how would you do it in a hurry, and how would you seal the side of it?
I reckon it would be better to fit a spring loaded, damped, flapper valve inside the can so it would close off some gas flow at <5krpm but open up with more gas flowing.
Like EXUP, only bodged :p

Someone told me once that's how Quill T3s work, they have a wee valve that opens up as the pressure rises. Don't know if that's true though.

Cool.
I keep trying to think of ways to make mine more antisocial, a sonic cannon type horn is on the to do list, and maybe a vacuum operated spark unit for some fiery overrun lol
