Ok, had something posted to me first class last Friday, it is now the following Friday. I know that there has been a strike in the meantime, but surely it should be here now??? … plenty of bills/statements have made their way through the post to me, so its not like there is no ‘flow’ … ;)
So my first concern is will it ever get here? Secondly when?? And thirdly bearing in mind I paid best part of £7 for it to be shipped first class (usually next day, worst case 2 days), can I claim compensation for massive delay? That is presuming it will eventually get here … I paid for first class service … it hasn’t happened … Somebody should pay – even if it is just that they can’t control their staff … why should I loose out??? :smt093
… bring back the electric chair I say … :smt013
Could be worse bud...
Where I work , the job I do rely's on Royal Mail lorrys dropping certain items off. If no items arrive theres nothing I can do with them lol... hence I had today off. And probably best part of next week off aswell...
Work refusing to pay the wages since its not their fault specificly, which I guess I understand. But someone should pay...
You'll get it. Just wait a bit more.
RM policy is to wait 3wks (i think) before you can claim an item is lost. Even without strike action.
Also there are unofficial strikes going on still, so maybe it's caught up somewhere. Basically it depends where it's going from/to.
Sorry, no good news mate. :p

I'm fuming as well Blue. I'm waiting for numerous parcels and all i seem to receive is a trickle of junk mail. Its nice to see RM have their priorities!
I did get one parcel, sent royal mail special delivery. However it took over a week to get here and it was meant to be guaranteed next day! Nice footprints all over it as well.
Its getting to the stage where Royal Mail should be binned. At the best of times its not fit for purpose, but its really taking the **** now. Whatever internal problems you have, i dont really care!

Consequently Blue i hope your parcel wasn't too valuable. I always send stuff special delivery or at worst recorded, to ensure it gets to its destination.

Strewth, are you sure they're not (your work that is) taking the ****? They wouldn't be the first to pull a fast one on their workers and blame someone else.

I think you will find that employers can do more or less what they like as long as they follow a few basic rules to avoid legal pitfalls.
Interestingly next week's RM strike has been declared illegal in the High Court today on a technicality.
Most employment law is stacked very heavily in favour of employers which is actually why there is a postal strike in the first place--The employers have got so arrogant they believe they can bludgeon their workers into submission.Time will tell, they may be right.
same here, i have ordered SS braided lines from Hel on tuesday, normally shipped next day, no sign yet. this strike action is causing big problems.
and on tuesday i sent two parcels first class neither person has got them yet. But i did have the forsight to send them recorded so i can track them and claim if they go missing!

I say sack (or shoot - don't mind which :D) the lot of them!!
I agree with ASM, shut down royal mail and let someone else take over ...
I suggest we shoot all the rebellious RM strikers right now ... and then fill their places with our over run of immigrants .. that way it kills two birds with one stone, gets rid of the current RM rebels and gets all the immigrants 'on the books' and contributing 8)
I should be king :king: or better still :farao:

I just heard that on the news, apparently only for Monday and Tuesday. The strikes are rolling though so expect nothing for a few months, by which time Christmas will wreak havoc. :D

Competition for RM would be fine, just as long as any competitors had to deliver the same service everywhere with no cherry picking only the profitable bits.Id like to see TNT or DHL deliver letters to remote Scottish Islands for 39p
I could whinge onto my workplace about it , but I kinda see their point of view. In the usual case , I supply a service & they pay me... Im not longer supplying that service so then I can see why they dont want to pay me lol. Royal mails fault , not neccesarily theirs.
On saying that , I used to work for royal mail up Doxford park in Sunderland. Whilst it was alright there, theres a permanent feeling of something is not right about the place.
In my opinion , the national Postal Service should be governmental... same with the Public transport. introducing private companys running critical jobs like this just opens a can of worms
-edit-
In fairness to competition, The Deutch Mail group has been trying to get their mits into our national mailing system for years.. all be it denied by Royal mail. Its a shame cos there pretty good aswell offshoot wise like Omega etc. Unlike Parcel force , which as just as pants as Royal mail is.
Now, seeing as how our competitiors like TNT, UKMail etc. can't actually be arsed delivering anywhere they dont get a huge profit doing so (ie. rural) - they can offload stuff like that in our depots, and we are obliged to deliver all this by law at a loss. And it's them that generate a lot of the junk mail.
The reason you've not been getting real items of mail is partly because RM asked the public/businesses not to put unessential mail into the system during the strikes.
So go on, use a courier. They're soooo much better. :smt013

Securicor Omega no longer exists it was bought out by DHL about 3 years ago for about £700 million
Completely agree about parcel force being rubbish, they managed to lose an SV engine i had bought, then when they found it a week later they delivered it to the wrong house! :smt013
Damn , hadnt heard about Omega being bought out.
Been a while since I worked at Royal mail I guess.. we used to get these "in house" magazines , with articles about such potential companys who would like to be where Royal Mail is.

I have heard news (last thing 2night, bbc at the very end of newsnight) that an agreement has been made with the union directors and royal mail, but first has to be agreed on by the members, the earliest this can happen is monday morning, here's hoping thats an end to this. But I agree something needs to be changed as the company just gets worse, not better, mail never arrives on time, never mind during a strike.

Turned up today ... that is 1 week 3 days after it was posted ... I want a refund on my FIRST CLASS postage

I have to pickup on this point, as I live in a rural area.
Try shipping something by courier to me, it doesn't work. It'll get as far as their nearest "branch office" then I get something delivered by the RM postie (who actually lives over the road) saying I have to go pick it up. So unless I know what's in the post before I go, I generally don't bother picking it up, and it can go back to the sender.
The last thing that happened with was the Fon modem I ordered a while back. I think that took 3 months to get to me. Free postage, and the courier wants me to drive 15miles to go pick it up. Err, no.
If the staff at RM are getting a bum deal, let them take a stand! Do I care if post arrives a little late? Nope.
