Sorry to bring it up for yet another time..
Just been out trying to get my knee down for the first time. I've watched the vids and read about how to do it BUT i'm still not getting it!
My leg doesn't seem to bend that far and find it hard to be totally in control of the bike as i'm leaning off. I've got my opposite leg locked into the tank, one **** cheek off the seat and looking round the side of the screen but can't quite get the right position, i'm sure i'm leaning it far enough..
Any other tips/advice?

Just a thought, but why not find a nice empty bit of road and just hang off the bike untill you find a position where you feel stable and in control.
If you don't feel in control, are you putting weight on your hands and messing up your steering inputs?
All IMO, knee down is not something I have tried

hang off further, so it feels ridiculous and you think you look stupid, when you do touch down you'll have some idea of the lean angle and how near the tarmac is to your slider the comfortable body positioning will come.

Why the big deal about getting the knee down please?

Yep, too much weight on my hands and the bike is moving around. I think it's got to be down to body position. More practice needed probably.
KwakZZR, your dead right, I did feel a bit silly and was getting some funny looks from drivers. Trying to find a nice big smooth roundabout thats quiet is not easy! I know one that is new and perfect but it's always very busy..

Hey Nick 4, try to get more corner speed and lean over more, the one thing I noticed with your otherwise very good riding is that I almost crash into the back of you in bends! You really slam on the anchors (or else my brakes are bad ). I think you need to go faster and lean more to start with, you are probably hanging off enough already. On the rideout with Stu in the lead, I was shocked at how little I was leaning over compared to how far it can really go. Hope that helps and I am not just being a condescending b*st*rd. :)

I dont actually think you want a big roundabout, on small to medium ones you can get you knee down at a slower speed. I reckon do a track day, i had been trying for ages on the road and then did a track day and got sliding without even trying.

Don't have any velcro on me leathers so it would be a bit daft scraping me knee, I like dragging my toes though, quite entertaining in an "oooh... sparky" sort of way lol

I had a run in this morning with a car driven by a young to$$er. He was trying to help me get my knee down (and my ar$e and the rest of my body) ;)
Look out for a yellow / green Corsa driven around Holbeck / Hunslet!!

Waits for the inevitable 'had an off' thread.
Also Whats your right foot position like? Normally you point it out away from the bike. If you're still doing that, it could be messing up your leg/knee positioning.
The best advice i have heard is to get out on the road with a KD pro/*****. When they actually see you in action, they can offer advice.

She looks like she is about to fall over in that pic. She is really turning the bike in there, she going pretty slowly yeah?
I have never done that real slow knee down thing.
I have seen guys almost stop the bike on their knee though....

Been back out today but no joy, too many cars on the roundabout but I was getting lower and feeling more in control when hanging off and lost most of my chicken strip too :-) .. Gonna try again in a bit as I've found a better (quieter) roundabout :-)

dont worry too much about leaning the bike over, concentrate on your body positioning first.

She's not going that slowly, but she does tend to pivot the bike round on her knee at the hairpin. he has been known to ride round and round in circles, knee down, at just above walking pace. It's all about body position, being able to make the most subtle of changes to throttle and position and confidence in your tyres.

Yeah. Right, she certainly seems to be pretty good on the positioning...
I saw lads do that really slow knee down stuff before. It's pretty crazy how slow they can go, bike almost on the ground, totally in control like you were saying.
I think one of the hardest bits would be where do you look? I mean, I look where my exit point is, and almost sort of forget about the bike and leaning and things. Doing that round and round on your knee stuff... you just keep looking at the same angle and panning across I suppose?
Too much for me I think. My head would keep locking and turning I'm sure.

I suppose this is all about confidence.
I sometime try and get over but wonder if I should only try it if I'm going at a certain speed?

It's a case of hanging a bit further off the bike and leaning further over.. So yeah, it's down to having the confidence to push your limits further. I'm getting closer everytime :-) Just got some leathers with knee sliders so thats why i'm trying now as before I couldn't! I lost most of my chicken strip off one side today too :-)

If i can bend my knee enough, i will challenge you to a KD duel. I believe Warthog and myself discussed this previously and he will want to play as well.

Considering ASM can't mount his steed I think I have a very good chance of winning! Even if I haven't (yet) got my knee down! :p
TV=Thames Valley (just in case anyone else was wondering wtf I was on about).
Have never got my knee down....I'm putting it down to short legs.
Practice makes perfect. Its handy to have someone with you to point out where your going wrong, with maybe a camera so you can see just how far you are off the ground.
I was playing about one day and someone kindly pointed out my knee was no where near the ground however, my exhaust was bloody close everytime the pegs touched down which could have ended in disaster.
I dont see the benefit of it on the road myself, unless you 100% know the road, where every bump is and have checked it out for any hazards like spills and mud etc then its all abit dodgy, but it is damn fun trying.
Hang off, feet positioned at the edge of your pegs so your toe touches down before your pegs if you get it wrong........and be smooth and maintain a steady speed until exiting the corner. It will feel really uncomfortable if your jolting and wobbling about.

yay, so you liked it then!!! I love that bit of road. It's the best bit about going home to visit my parents. Good knees down teritory if you don't mind the adverse camber at points. I'm still trying too. its too bloody cold to wear my suit with knee sliders no so I guess I'll have to wai for next spring :(. I get the same problem nick 4 (or whoever you are now ;)) of de-stabalising the bike when i shift position.
