:smt017 Surely that is the Virgin option??!?!? :p
If your a virgin because of abstinence or inability is almost beside the side, you go in that category!! ;)

To be fair, 'getting it' 'on the floor' is generally how one looses their (KD) virginity!!! :smt047

I can't any more, my leg's the wrong shape. But then, I could just barely do it before so no great loss :D So instead, I shall assume the moral high ground and say "there's no need for it on the road, you're better concentrating on your lines and obs". Which is true.

ditto
Now and then but not on everyride i go on, I ride the same road alot and theres some tight slow speed corners with that super sticky abrasive stuff on where you just cant fight the temptation to be abit of a kid. Though 80% of my riding recently has been with my nervous missus on the back so has been rather slow and 110% cautious.
Every morning :) Im a legend me.

Precisely, on the rare occasions I do on the road it's 'cos I'm showboating. can't remember the last time on the road. Sit up, pay attention to road position and obs - you'll go quicker with a greater margin of safety too.
I don't wear sliders, so never bother on the road.
Time spent leaning over at extreme angles is time when full throttle can not be used, somebody famous said something like that and he's right.
I don't think I even lean my bike over very far anymore. I can keep up with people who use the whole tyre when I don't, but I'm just as fast, if not faster than them. I don't understand or care and miss the KeithD option on this poll.
Said rarely, although only done it a couple of times on the road, and so can remember when. No desire to repeat it particularly, although don't even have any leathers at the moment, so unless I decide I hate my textiles I won't be bothering.
only on the road when i was a silly kid, too much gravel and oil, but every time i visit croft i carnt resist

Where's the "Only when I fall off" option?
TBH, I don't care for it ... I'll get round to it when I'm confident enough with the ability of my riding and my bike. In the meantime I'm with northwind ... don't feel the need on the roads, as I'd much rather concentrate on my riding and my obs.
I'll know when the time is right to lose my KD virginity though ;-)
KNEE down?! I've worn a wedge out of the side of the footplates! :smt019:
My bike (http://www.jinlun.co.uk/125.html)
I am, of course, talking out of my Americanus (Shamelessly stolen from the stretched SV thread)
i had a chinky bike it was a right rust bucket i should have saved my cash an got something else thankfully some thick person stole it
Never have - even went to Donington Park last week and was plenty quick enough but all whilst sitting bolt upright! One day on track maybe but not bothered at all on the road...

I clean mine maybe once every 6 months, spray the (admitedly crap) chrome bits with waterproof laquer, and replace the exposed fixings when they get the dreaded brown on them.
So far, it's done me well. One off at 40, engine bars did their job. I'd keep it if it wasn't a complete dog to go any distance.
I'm with northwind
I'm with Sid Squid.... I would like to show boat!
I did it when I fell off and broke my ankle in the process. One of those turns which gets tighter as you progress through it and I didn't tip it enough. Knee was sore later so it must have touched. I'm sure this doesn't count so i'm a 'hoping to lose my flower soon.' Just scrubbed some z6's in and they're great. If I can wear the elephants off i'm sure my knee will go down.

Same here, I've killed the elephants on two sets of Z6's, but not for lack of trying at "knee down roundabout" (Junc. 5 M65) I just can't do it. So now place myself in the "Virgin" and not bothered section!
Still wish I could though!

I saw it in my mirrors..
Every time i'm out as long as i'm wearing my leathers, its dry, and i'm certain of the corner and its surface, very addictive stuff.
Virgin here, looking for the right conditions.
Never KD'd, but I'm sure i lean it far enough. Don't have sliders anyway so best not grind my kneecaps, eh!
I think my riding style is more 'sling the bike around and weight the pegs' rather than 'hang off like a monkey' anyway. :D

I think my attitude has changed … when I used to predominately ride for pleasure, after I first was able to do it, I felt no ride was complete without getting my KD at least once … I also felt I hadn’t ridden a new bike until I had KD on it – even my old classic bikes/nails!! :D
KD is/was kool  :thumright:
But I just don’t care now … I hang off the bike like a gibbon if I am riding like a ****, but that’s just my natural stance when I am - doing my thang - , like I said, I can’t remember when I last KD’d …

I do it some of the time when i really am pushing, seems to comfort me more than not hanging off at speed. I feel smoother when i do it too, and apparently it looks pretty good. Sometimes the knee doesnt touch the ground but i still sometimes ride with it out ;)
For example North Wales rideout 2 - Got lost found a road i was going up and down and scraped my knees and leathers a bit cos i was gettin stressed and trying to go quick!

I totally agree NW :smt045
I was equating motorcycle racing to horse racing last night to hubby (yes he glazed over too;)) - both a totally different ball game from their fellow disciplines - in my experience motorcyling purely for pleasure is a bit like the pleasure gained from dressage or hacking on a horse - purely for the enjoyment of improving control or enjoying the outdoors - as opposed to racing where you just wanna be faster than everyone else - afraid that doesnt float my boat - I get more pleasure from just improving/enjoying the ride  (ooeerr!)
hope that makes some sense (when do I ever )Ive got a cold and feel rotten :smt099:(

I'm a virgin and I'm scared!!
please will all the KD virgins heed this warning, go on a track day before you try this as if you hit a gravel patch or some horse sh!t or a diesel patch you'll be off and if its a left hander there a good chance you'll end up under a vehical, get your confidence on the track where theres no opposing traffic and medics waiting at the side, theres tracks all over the country and there not expensive
I got both knees down at the same time once, though that was on a Honda Melody moped (in fetching Perfect Pizza livery) - does that count?

Don't be so melodramatic!!
Sure you need to use your loaf about when/where, sure its not a bad idea, but its not crucial to make your first attempt on a trackday …

This is true I learnt on a local roundabout on an empty industrial estate. The road surface was level and grippy, no gravel and no spills and plenty safe enough to practice at an average speed.
On the track you would probably feel obliged to be at a reasonable rate of leptons when trying it and hence doing yourself more harm should you mess up.
Its the same logic as the type of speeder who speeds at rather silly speeds but never gets caught......theres a time and a place
Agreed on that point blue. I popped my knee to tarmac on the road and I didn't fall off and die. People need to chill.
I don't agree with those that do 75 zillion circuits of a roundabout though as that's a bit unfair on other road users. I did mine on a favourite corner of mine, was a lefty too just to prove it wasn't a roundabout ha ha :D
It's not crucial to do it on the road as others have said, but who gives a monkeys, it's fun. I'm sure my trousers felt more full in the crotch department once I'd kissed tarmac with knee also.....:smt112

I agree, being able to just hang off like a gibbon and concentrate on the sole aim of KD essentially just going in ever decreasing circles/building speed slightly in a continual loop - at a well chosen spot - to loose ones virginity has to be better for you and everyone else than at a trackday!?!?
I must stress that once you have done it, its time to then grow some and try it for real - then a trackday is ideal ... there is nothing sadder than the sight of a bunch of blokes sitting at a roundabout taking it in turns to KD ... then patting each other on the back telling each other how cool they looked!! :D

I got my knee down on the first attempt on a roundabout. I didn't see what all the fuss was about, there is no skill in it at all. A roundabout is not a great place to be 'playing' anyway. Knee down on actual corners on the road, yes, that's "acceptable" in my book but far from impressive. :P

When blasting around a short track chased by a pal on a rapid Go Kart and me on a KTM did it for the first time and kept on doing it! And it wasn't slow either.
On the road I see this activity as similar to peeing up a wall or comparing w*lly length. Only really impressive to the participants and of no real value to anyone.
Roundabout hunting to me seems the most ridiculous of pastimes I can think of.
I am not a slow rider,(when I have a bike sob..sob) and have never got my knee down even when I was crazier as a yoof.

If you want scary, I got me kneedown on a GN250 once, complete with topbox. Now that was scary. Kind of how I imagine getting your kneedown on a mattress with broken springs would feel like.
It's all a bit of fun. As someone else said just use your loaf as to when you do it and you'll be okay. I do it as I enjoy it plus the sparks are a safety feature as then other drivers notice you more (okay, really reaching now:D).
By the way that last part was a joke, the old loafers who frown on such behaviour need not reply telling me how silly I am, I already know. :p Peace.

Sorry Graeme, I must be REALLY bored at work to be doing this ... but ... I've just looked at the results and actually, the poll (of currently 65 votes) has a split of 33% of whom HAVE got their knee down, whilst 66% have declared their virginity.
However if you read the posts in the thread (and I just have - again), then it's an even split of 13 people who have stated "knee down" and 13 people who have stated (or had it thrust upon them ;-) the "virgin" option. About 4 people quoted the "KeithD option", whilst there was a further handful (just a few) people who posted purely for comedic value or didn't actually state whether they had got their knee down in the manner in which the poll was intended ;-)
So, what conclusions can we draw from this?
1. 50% of people who voted actually posted.
2. Those that voted are not necessarily the ones who posted, and therefore your statistics and assumptions are meaningless :-P
3. That I have FAR too much time on my hands
BTW. Assuming that 23 of 65 people who voted "KD" in the poll then posted in the thread, then almost half of them are lying (as only 13 people specifically stated that they had indeed got their knee down).
Assuming that the larger vote of 40-ish votes was for KD virgins it is unsurprising that so many of them would rather not post and declare themselves as virgins, hence the (probable) lower post response from the KD virgins section of the poll 13/40.
It all makes perfect sense :D ... to me, in my own little world :)

50/50? errr almost ;-)
it's more like (using percentages) 33/66 on the poll
but 48/48 on the threads (with about 4% of those that posted "undetermined").
And if you look at the ratio of posters/pollers for KD'ers vs "KD-Virgins", then it looks like this ... KD 13/23 (posters/pollers), KD-Virgins (13/42).
Now you can read that as ...
Plenty more people are willing to admit to being KD virgins than KD'ers.
OR
A higher percentage of KD'ers have posted to back up their vote in the poll, and a much smaller percentage of KD virgins have posted thereby posing the question ... are the KD'ers boasting about it, or are the KD virgins just not willing to admit in the thread that they are KD virgins ;-)
In the words of "R Graham" (Blind Date) ... "The choice is yours" ;-)
See what statistics prove? NOTHING ;-) LMAO

If you are a KD virgin you have a couple of options ... if you are a KD-er you have some options too ... if you don't care about the subject then you would still fall into one of the categories, but why would you want to be casting a vote anyway??? ... just move onto another thread ... it is really very straightforward ...
