Hi all.
I have fitted a new double bubble screen to replace what I think was my standard screen (Bought bike second hand, so it looks standard fit)
ANYHOO.
I had a right struggle getting the little rubber gromits(with internal threads) back through the fairing and through the holes in the new screen.
Does anyone have a better way of doing this to help anyone else about to tackle the same job.
Would you recommend taking off the full fairing and do it 'off' the bike?
I had to remove the dashboard cover/shielding to get the screen in properly too.
Hints and tips, even though I've done it now.
Cheers

Hi,
Remember putting my screen on my curvy had problems with those rubber grommets having a sort of flanged/washer end to them.
Came up with a solution that I seemed to remember from somewhere.
If you wrap a piece of string once around the stalk of the grommet leaving two longish ends which, when you put the hole of the screen against the flat flat part of the grommet, you gently pull through.
As the string is pulled through (I think it was only one end that you pull), it lifts the edge of the grommet and as you press against it the flanged end should come through with the string and the jobs a good un. There is a knack and several attempts may be required but it worked.
Hope i've managed to convey what i did and that it may help in the future.
Don't think i removed any of the fairings other than the black 'ears' at the ends of the internal fairing (which also hide the mirror fixings).
The grommets didn't come off the bike either but stayed insitu during the fitting.
Anyway, hope this helps if there is a next time...

Thanks for that advice.
My gromets came out with the original screen!
I managed to get them back in with a bit of luck and use of a dental tool type thing to ease the rubber flange(good word that) back through the fairing. I had to take off the dshboard cowling (another good word) so that I could get my hand and arm in under the new screen to apply pressure on the gromits so that they pushed up against the fairing.
Slim hands, but slightly chunky forearms made it a bit difficuly Especially whilst trying to get the screen located properly.
It is worth it though!
A bit late now but soaking them in a cup of hot water softens the blighters a bit!! Worked for me!:alien:
