Just after joining the A27 from the A3M this morning I was cruising in the centre lane at about 40. I looked for a gap in the outside lane so I could pull out. As I brought my vision to the front again there was a Mitsubishi 4x4 moving into my lane right next to me from my left. I was about half way past overtaking him when I did my life saver. By the time my vision came to the fron again I was level with his front wheel. The outside lane was blocked so i hit the horn. He came within inches of side swiping me. He then started flashing his lights and gesturing at me as if it was my fault.
The fact that I was so far past him meant he must be able to see me. I think it was a case of I've got a 4x4 mate so get out of may way. Now I am not a violent person and undestand that sometimes it's not easy for car drivers to see bikes but this guy :smt071

Yeah- I had that a while back- guy tried changing lanes at me from the left- I let him out then beeped and gestured at the **** and he hit his brakes in front of me. There really are some arrogant t****rs about.
I think it's just best to keep your cool in hindsight. There's not much you can do about them and there's really no point getting wound up about it or causing them to further act dangerously by reacting either (like I did) as some of these types will do- as far as they're concerned, they won't get hurt in their car, but you will so they're not that bothered.

poor obs, from your description of events, you should have been in the perfect location to have collected his wing mirror before riding away...
do you reckon, somewhere out there in cyberspace, there's a forum full of 4x4 drivers bitching about bikers coming out of nowhere and almost scratching their lovely paintwork?:D

The A3M where it joins the A27 is down to 50 at the moment due to road works and that time in the morning 40 is rather fast.
As soon as I get a bike with some power (More than the stonking 11.6BHP ZOMGWTFLOL!!!11 on my 125), I have a list of 4x4 school run mothers to key as I ride past.
It's going to be hard on my gloves, but I think gluing some broken glass to the carbon fibre knuckles might help... :D

I think there must be a special driving school for 4x4 owners. They have the best possible view of all around them yet they fail to see any other road users. Probably because they are shouting at teh screaming kids, or on the phone to their friend organising the next 'how to park your 4x4 in Tesco' coffee morning.

Yep. Not the urban off-roader type though.

Lol, i use mine for transporting my huge Mutley about the place and all of the rallies are based in the middle of the woods down some of the fire tracks lol... Wouldn't be taking the Evo down these roads lol.
I went for a gap a month or two ago and executed the manouver lovely only for a bus to decide he wanted to pull out of his stop without looking or indicating while i was along side him.
I about crapped myself and its the closest I have come to becoming 'a real biker' and having an off. Locked up both wheels and stalled the bike whilst nearlly going into the back of a car whilst performing evasive action as I literaly had nowhere to go. It was more than likely my fault though in hindsight and I'm certainly alot more careful when picking gaps in traffic:(
Live and learn.
Scratched Titanium knee sliders versus paintwork... 8)

Yup, you would never catch Tommi Mäkinen taking his car through a forest.
