Luckypants

Looking for a new set of pipes for my 'Whispering Death' VFR. It is so quiet no one knows I'm there till I go past. :D
Here are two front runners so far:-
Staintune (http://youtube.com/watch?v=W7BMg3_PsSw)
Leo Vince (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4wMH2eeCa7E)
Laser, Devil and Scorpion are out I think.
Ay other suggestions? What do folks think?

there both good exhausts but why did you discount devil?

I'm partial, but my vote goes for Leo Vince. ;)

Because they look rubbish and sound tinny.
Two Brothers Racing? They do a system where the exhaust routes into one endcan, and the other can be used for ..... storage :D :D

Or there normal system (Still only routes to 1 can though)

The stasher!
Or the ones where you get four small pipes mv style.
Luckypants

Yeah, Two Brothers seemed good in the past, but basically that is the high level system from the old VFR800FI with a dummy can stuck on the left for looks. They have not made a new system for the new VTEC engine.
Not keen on the looks either.
Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming.

You mean the Laser ones? Won't fit with panniers.

Just in case you didn't hear me,

Not usually so opinionated about other peoples bikes, but this time, I am right.

Cant ya take em off though?

17-10-07, 02:12 PM
Neither. They both look not as nice as the stock ones and I'm coming round too the quiet cans school of thought and noise is a nuisance.

I like the Staintunes. Good rep. Stainless and no cheapy strap to hold them on , you get a proper bracket like OE. Deep tone, not raspy and not too loud with the baffles out.
There is a great review somewhere on the net of some yanks testing Micron vs Staines vs two bros(possibly) on a Vtec. Indepth with plenty of pics and of course video! Staines won and sounded gorgeous. Searchy.........
Nice choice to make, V4 with open pipes?

Staintunes. They were best aftermarket exhausts in Ride Power thing a year or so ago, got rave reviews for pretty much everything, build quality, noise etc

They can be removed. ;)Really? I thought they were rivited on? Certainly look it in photos I have seen.
If you can get the motifs off then the Leo Vinces for deffo - much more manly! ;)

I have to say that the Micron that I had on my VFR (Pre-VTEC) sounded absolutely brilliant.
That also had the proper bracket as part of the can rather than a 'band'.

Mine was just a sticker.
I bet if you really wanted you could get the suppliers to ask the manafacturer to provide one without the logo riveted on.
I love the LeoVince Exhausts such good quality, if I wasnt so tight I would have had one on the SV

Leo Vince have one of the worst logos in exhausts... Which is odd, because their exhausts are ace. Quite odd to have a company that can do top quality titanium welding but gets the work experience kid to design the logo.

Just been watching the motoGP and most of the V4s on there sound pretty good. Also been for a short spin with no ear plugs in, so I got an idea how she's gonna sound.
I think the Leo Vince win for the deeper tone of the exhaust note and looking at more photos, it does look like a sticker for the logo. So a set of Titanium pipes to complement the silver bike is gonna be coming my way soon.

Matt, I'll try recording the sound of mine later so you can see for yourself. And yes, I think they do high-level ones, but you need to get rid of the topbox! :smt082

[french accent] Never! [/french accent]
I thuink there is sufficient gap for the high level zorst and the top-box rack to coexist, judging by what i've seen from others
Ooo i want a loud exhaust, dunno if there is any point while restricted but...i got a v-twin...
Yea, get us a recording, a good quality one in MP3 :D

OMG!!!!! :smt103 Just been quoted £745 for the Leo Vince system!! (Titanium) I think they are taking the mickey.
Set of Staintunes are £548, so I think they might get the vote after all!

Hi level exhausts not a good idea if you do two up at all.
Incidentally Matt, are you joining us at Boxhill Sunday?
Whats an extra £200 when your spending £550 anyway
Alpinestar - There is a clip of a pointy on you tube with a LeoVince fitted, the sound is amazing never hear an sv like it.

I'm struggling to justify £550 let alone £750.
Yeah, bike show could be a winner.....

Hehe - easy for us to say eh Luckypants! ;)
I dont envy you twin pipe boys - the Remus for my Zed was £200 odd and that seemed like a helluva lot of money!
Just make sure you do that V4 justice! :smt077
This is true, I think I would perhaps have a heart attack at the thought of having to spend that much :( Although when I inevitably buy and expensive bike I will inevitably have to :(

A friend of mine who has a VRF has some arrow cans on it - sounds lovely...not sure how much they were tho.
He might be selling the bike, and has the original system - I'll have a work and see if he'll sell them separately is you want (cant promise anything mind)

Pedro's micron, speedy's Ackrapovic and 5hort5 beowulf (I think) all souinded so good. Followed a VFR on standard pipes up Snake Pass and i could not hear it at all (althought he was a pussy). Trashed a XKR (new one) shortly after - that was fun!

My own opinion is , much like the guys who try and turn the SV into a SS600 suspension wise, you can improve on what you have, but it's never going to be as good, it'll alway be a compromise, you won't get SV type sound from that engine :smt102
plenty of after market options, I like the remus one's myself not the loudest by any yard stick, but a nice rounded sound , just a little louder than stock, and a quality feel as well.
Cheers Mark.

I know that -guess what, it's not a V-twin!
with the right pipes a VFR sounds ace, a throbbing V-sound at lower revs with a right howl above 7000 rpm. Once the VTEC kicks in, it has a F1 sound (IMO). Just need something that actually lets you hear that!

Hey you made the comparison, whist I'd agree the IL4's triples and even your V4 made what arguably good noise comparing them to any Vtwin is a futile effort.
If on the other hand you were after opinions on making the most of the engine you have, I provided that.
Cheers Mark
