Which side do you use?

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,22556678-23272,00.html

I see the dancer turning clockwise (surprise...) though with a bit of concentration I can get her spinning anti-clockwise.

Fascinating.

Wow I love that. It is mostly clockwise however if i concentrate i can get it to go anticlockwise.

Really cool

Anti, then clock, then anti, then clock......Ooooooo...am quite impressed with the power I have over my brain. Does this mean I am mad?

Jo -> still can't do magic eye pictures tho :(

Excellent ... when I first looked at it, it was turning CLOCKWISE :)

I tried to focus on getting it to turn anti-clockwise, but it just wouldn't go.
So i started to read the spiel with it, and when I looked back, it was automatically going ANTI-CLOCKWISE :D

Then I focused again ... and this time I could get it to change direction!

Does that mean I can use whichever side of my brain I choose to?!?

I used to be good at art (which uses the "creative" side of the brain), and I also used to play the piano (which I suspect also uses that side of the brain), but I was also good at Maths at school, and am now working in IT (computers) probably using a damn site more of the "logical" side of my brain ... but ... I have had IT jobs where you can (and indeed NEED) to have a creative side (web/intranet design). So where does computer programming come into the whole scheme of things ... most would argue that it's a "logical" sequence ... however when you really start to understand programming languages, you can often argue a case for creativity ;-) go figure ;-)

Right, time to rest BOTH sides of my brain ;-)

Me neither :(

Me neither :(

Altho I do know why i can't - am long-sighted in one eye and short-sighted in the other, so cannot get both eyes to focus on exactly the same spot.

Clockwise, can't get it to go anticlockwise. I wonder how/if this works...

I'm fascinated to see what my boss gets, as I think I'm a bigger picture risk taker, whereas she goes by the facts and looks at detail.

no way can i get it to go anti clock, no matter how hard i try to clear my mind of pornographic thoughts.

as for magic eyes, gimme any and i'll have it cracked within 5 seconds

I can get it going both ways, but if I don't try at it it's always anticlockwise. So I can use feeling, but only by using logic

It will only go clockwise for me, not surprised only got one eye.

Sosha
17-10-07, 04:13 PM
Ok.... Anticlockwise - then after a while the image hiccoughs and it'll go clockwise for a bit then back etc...

For me anyway - shows how bored I am that I stared at it long enough :(

Edit: Muted the sound as a was half expecting a screaming banishee doing a "My eyes!" thing (phew)

Me too....

I saw the figure turning bothways, without any real effort or concentration.

Weird!!!!!

The twirly bothways figure - not me!

Well.... perhaps me too!

Just had another look and its going the other way now.

I grabbed the image too, and it runs slower in an image viewer and also has reversed. I am tired now, I wonder it that is it? I cant get it to reverse.

I had it turnung the other way for about a 1/4 of a rotation then thought "WOW" and it won't do it any more!

Apparently its an optical illusion reading the comments. However, even so there must be some way that the brain chooses which image to see, and hence the direction. For me it is mainly clockwise.

Caddy2000
17-10-07, 06:24 PM
Both ways - on demand!

And now she's going back and forth!!!!!!

Demonz
17-10-07, 06:39 PM
Thats neat. I can switch left or right by focusing on the shadow at the bottom. When I first looked at it it was going left. Now it just seems to go right.

17-10-07, 06:46 PM
Nope. Right handed.

I am......

... Just out of curiostity, which nostril do you use the most? Serious question

anna
17-10-07, 06:56 PM
clockwise to start with but can change it easily by looking either just the right of her or just to the left

phil24_7
18-10-07, 12:32 AM
I can only get it to go clockwise yet I'm a left side of the brain guy!!!

EDIT: Oooh, I can get it to go anti-clockwise if I look at the word "clockwise" in the text beside it, then I have to concentrate to keep it going that way. If I don't concentrate it just starts spinning clockwise again!

Kinvig
18-10-07, 07:01 AM
just been playing with this again - my left eye is more dominant & I see it go clockwise - if I close my left eye & concentrate I can make it go anti-clockwise. Then if I open my left eye it still goes anti clockwise, at least for a short time.

the white rabbit
18-10-07, 07:10 AM
I coulnt relate it to dominant eye.

Sosha
18-10-07, 11:15 AM
I can get her to reverse by deciding which side the shadow is on - if that makes sense...

sarah
18-10-07, 11:44 AM
Both.

mac99
18-10-07, 11:53 AM
It was massively clockwise for me at first, but I think I've got it cracked now. You make a 3d mental model from the silhouette and once this is locked it's hard to change.

But.
Freeze the image by clicking and trying to drag it (In firefox anyway)
Look at the arm sticking out and reverse that. If it was the right arm, see it as the left arm. Release and hope she spins the other way.

But this left brain right brain idea is stupid anyway. Do people really think it's that simple?

gettin2dizzy
18-10-07, 01:16 PM
That's what I meant by saying it was horoscope-esque. Some jibber jabber comment that people want to believe. Interesting illusion though :)

sinbad
18-10-07, 01:25 PM
Clockwise at first, and I didn't see how it could be anti clockwise. Then I used my imagination, and now the dancer is just doing 180 degrees one way, and then 180 the other way, and not doing a complete circle at all!

But looking again, the shadow - she can only be turning clockwise.
