My mate wants to trade my RSV-R for his GIXER thou ... he is bored of big IL4s ...
What to do ... what to do?!!?

00 RSV-R -> 02 Gixer + £500
Swap for a week, on the basis of you break it you buy it.
See how you both feel, and make the decision then.
Both top bikes, I would happily have either if I could afford to insure them.

my RSV has some 'road rash' - his Gixer is 'Tidy'.
how much do you like RSV?
sounds like a good deal for you

Thing is I can 'have a go' on his bike any time I want ... do I really want to own one? I have purposely moved away from sports bikes (superbikes in particular) a few years ago as I can't be trusted .... I shouldn't really have got the RSV-R ... but, well you know how it is!!

yes i "know how it is" :) i'm scouring bike trader already and i have abit of a family war against bikes at the moment.
This is a no brainer, but I'm a tad biased.

Do the swap, then I'll swap an 'o1 sv with you + £50, then we're all happy!

Do the swap, then get the gixer restricted to 33bhp.
That will stop you getting too excited and doing naughty things.

That is sacrilege!! :D Besides, lack of outright HP has never prevented me from being silly on a bike, in fact, the fewer the hp the more of a point I have to prove … !!
Like I said, I don’t really want to own a superbike …
What would be easier to sell the RSV or the GIXER? The gixer is in better nick, but there are so many of them about …
If someone wants the GIXER then I could swap my RSV - as my mate really fancies one - and sell the GIXER …
How much is an 02 gixer in good nick worth??

I reckon the GSXR will be easier to sell. Some numpty will take it off your hands in the summer or put it on the track. I reckon you may well want to hold off selling until the summer though....not many people are after a litre sports with winter coming, unless they are after a bargain.
Also i seem to see a hell of a lot of RSV for sale second hand. I reckon there is a limited market for a big twin, where as whilst there are lots of gsxr1k knocking about, there is always going to be high demand.

How generous an offer. :p
At times i have wanted something a bit more powerful, but as the speeds are already illegal, i think its better to stick with 599cc. That and i have a ton of aftermarket parts i havn't even fitted yet.
Plus the R6 is sexy, unlike those oh so common tooth-paste gsxr's.

No ...
I have a soft spot for the SP1/2, but again, I am not about to get one as I want to stay away form 'big' bikes!! To be fair the SV is a little bigger than I really wanted to allow myself ... but I persuaded myself somewhere along the way ... and now I have 4 ... sorry 3 of them!!

Had the Kawasaki equivalent (GPZ500) for ages before the SV ... it was ideal!! :)
The bottom line is it really does not matter what you ride a long as you enjoy riding it. A gixer will not make you a riding god anymore than a CG125. You still haveto learn to ride within your own limits. The gixer is loopy fun to learn on mind ;)
I can't honestly say which of my bikes I prefer to ride, my MT-03 is loopy in traffic and on the tight twisties but the gixer is plain mad for silly speed lunacy out on the open road and the lanes.

Have a go on a GSXR, then jump back on your SV, and see which one makes you smile more and which one you feel better having.
Seems to me you wouldnt be happy parting with the SV...so if I were you, I'd keep the SV
I still want an SP-2. Maybe an SP-1, if I can find one thats not been fettled too much...

If you don't want to get rid of the SV, do not test ride a Gixer thou. It could well be the beginning of the end of a wonderful relationship. It was for me :(

Er where does my SV come into this?!?! ;) ..... I never said anything about ditching the SV!! [-X
You are also making the assumption that I haven't ridden his GIXER already :o

I think I have read a few things wrong then :D
well if you can have the GSXR and the SV, then...why the hell not

I seem to remeber you offering the RSV R up for sale for a lot less than £2.3k? Take the gixer and sell it. Get another SV :)

I might do the former, but the latter isn't really unnecessary!! :D

hahah! Love to, but as I haven't passed my test yet and I'd have to strangle it down to 33bhp, it'd probably throw me off out of spite, and then run me over.
