View Full Version : New boy...bad day
Just thought I'd say hi as I'm a proud new SV owner.
Well, was proud....
First day out I binned it with big help from a rabbit darting out in front of an oncoming truck. Ran it up the verge and almost came through it alright but found a drainage ditch rather sharpish.
Screwed forks and bits and a few scratches. I walked away fortunately but now have to repair the bike.
Rubbish.

Unlucky.
Are you fully comp? Don't worry if you're not....the premium hike would be a killer anyway.
At the end of the day it least you are not hurt.
In the future better to run the rabbit over. :)
Fully comp but wondering if I can get it ridable again without paying the excess amount. Checked my premium for next year with a fake quote and it doesn't seem to have risen that much, which is nice.
Deciding whether to get it 'ridable' on the cheap or pay the excess, get a shiny bike and pay through the nose for it.
kinda remnds me of the Clarkson quote, "It's so comfortable you can run over anything up to a medium-sized fox and not even notice"
so...buy an Audi R8.

Make sure they're not just twisted first, SV forks and yokes are fairly bendy so they can twist a long way without permanent damage... Or sometimes, what looks like bent forks (expensive) is actually bent yokes (less expensive)
Hope it works out anyway. Did you actually hit the jackelope or did you try to dodge it?
Dodge.
Inexperience made me twitch and I straightened up a couple of metres before I should've done and trying to steer clear of the large oncoming lorry I was already towards the verge.
All these things I have read I shouldn't do but hey....no better way of learning than cocking up.

Plus, it would have made a tasty stew.

Well, if you do a head-on with a bike with really stiff forks, Benelli TNT maybe, you're miles more likely to bend the frame ;)

I nearly wrote off my 306 avoiding a rabbit, people told me just to hit things, the very next day out comes a dog, so i hit it and completely wreck my front bumper....and the bloody thing lived so no dog stew.
I also nearly wrote off my current work car hitting a rather large deer this year.
ALL OF THESE ANIMAL INCIDENTS HAPPENED IN PERTHSHIRE.......this must be the worst area for animal related car accidents know to man, I have also narrowley avoided various animals up there on various occasions. Yet no where else in this world have i really encountered animals.

I totalled a Mondeo radiator on the M53 ... A fox CHASED a hare into the middle lane - right where I was travelling ... it happened so fast (on a dark stretch) so I had no chance of avoidance ... all I did was to brake in a straight line to try and reduce my speed and therefore the damage ... got both the f**kers tho ... fox and hare! The hare was actually sucked under the car, and smashed through the fan and radiator, whilst the fox was just wiped out on impact with the front bumper (which faired remarkably well).
Thankfully ... *touch wood* ... I've not killed or maimed ANY wildlife thus far on a bike :)
Ohhh bad luck twosey. Main thing is you're okay, it's only a machine remember.
