Black Les Paul jobbie, thats not the real Gibson, but a friend who is rather an accomplished musician couldn't put it down once cause it played better than his real one....as I said not much, its how good you make em sound that counts..and with the right pedal thingmyjigs ...haven't decided if i do though

Zappa.
Corrected for you.
And no, Steve Vai learned how to play the guitar with Joe Satriani, Zappa only taught him some more important stuff... anyone can w@nk around the fretboard at the speed of light (practice, practice, practice and then some more practice), but to actually do it in a coherent and interesting manner is a completely different ball game.

Nope sorry. Seen a vid of Zappa a live performance. He wouldn't start a song becuase the rest of the band didn't start at 'EXACTLY' the correct time. Buggered if I could tell the difference. Made them do it 4 times. You must have Preternatural hearing to tell the difference.

yep its mahogany with a flamed maple top and an ebony fretboard the neck is striaght through, i was going to get a Les Paul but prefered the dean the sustain is awsome
I actually saw Zappa live in Germany in the 80,s, 82-83 probably , he was truly awsome, played for hours as well, did everything from 'Bobby brown' to experimental jazz, possibly the best gig I ever went too. I have a couple of guitars meself, a crafter electro acoustic and a marlin slammer strat copy, the marlin has been gigged a lot in the last 20 yrs or so, but not by me btw, and looks totally relic'd. Think Ill get them out now actually

Thnk it is a normal EARLY genesis version that I posted up there.
There are several on Youtube, some of which are the latest versions by Steve hackett and his band, Vocals by a chap called John Wetton. Gets abit weird compared to the 'original' version.
Brilliant guitar sound though, and Hackett is an amazing Guitarist. Rutherford too. Shame they all can't just get together and do almost original lineup with Peter Gabriel, Tony Bank, Michael Rutherford, and Phil Collins(he wasn't the orignal drummer; but brought a lot of talent and direction).

It used to be two guitars, both japanese Fenders, a 91 Hot Rod Reissue 50s and a 90 HRR 60s model. But one of them sounded great, and one of them played better than the other, so I crossed the streams... Then added a pair of custom shop seymour duncan pickups and an oversized machined block for the floyd rose, and replaced all the electrics, and made up a new scratchplate... But I've slightly run out of enthusiasm so it's been nearly-finished for about a year. I'm half terrified that I won't like it when it's finished :jocolor:So instead I play my £50 Squier Tele...

Batio's a batty boy!
It's like adding the halfords catalogue to your guitar, twin necks were cool as it allowed two different tones/style of guitar. Batio was just trying far too hard. Malmsteen is king :)
I've got a Variax 600 :) - It's beautiful, however it makes it harder to find excuses to buy more planks :(

totaly different to a double neck but id like to see someone play a double neck with both hands, oh no you'd need four arms no one can do what Micheal Angelo does and you carnt say that about any other guitarist, even if it does sound pants
ive never understood the concept of two guitars stuck together both facing the same way, you can only play one at a time just get a twelve string and a six and save your shoulder

Vai plays both at once. Often with a sampler, but not always. Guitar is about the passion, not the speed. Look at slash; perhaps the laziest player out there yet one of the best! (it only took him 30 years...) Batio is talented but it's youtube 30 seconds music, not rock conert material.

totally agree that his music is just freak show material lol and his look but i bet he is very passionate about it, its quite classical its just the super fast stuff that gets any notice

Make that 3 necks. I don't remember the name of the song, I think it's on G3 latest DVDs, triple neck guitar, IIRC it's 1 12 string that goes into a sampler (or Eventide, or everything all at once), 1 normal 6 string and 1 fretless 6 string. I'll try looking for it in youtube, must be there somewhere.
Oh, and another Variax / PODxt Live user here. And yes, I know real guitars and valves are better, but you can't beat my rig for the price I paid for it, thank you very much. *jealous mode off*

They're ace aren't they! You can get a better sound out of these than many systems costing thousands. Simply because they're set up perfectly. You need your own roadies otherwise! Is it worth getting the XT Live? I play through a fletone III at the moment.
depends what style of music you play ie theres no point having a vintage valve amp if you play thrash metal, i never got on with line6 i dont think an amp sim sounds anything like miking up a nice cab

I never tried the Flextone, so I can't vouch for it... but I'm in love with the XT Live, I bought it before I got the Variax and that's what made me take a very serious look at that guitar. If you're not afraid of tweaking to get "that" sound, then it's worth it (and the PC / Mac interface is a very good bonus, plus it allows you to use the Variax Workbench without further add-ons). When you start doing it then you're really into tweakheaven...
Just make sure you upgrade the POD's software (you can do it on the Mac too), and get a decent external compressor stompbox if you need one, the internal ones aren't that good (of course you can forget the internal noisegate after doing that, but hey... it couldn't be perfect).
Oh, and btw, I love daisy chaining my SansAmp into the PODxt... yes I am nuts and proud of it! :smt077

I know. Read above comment about price, though. Being a Vai fan (whatever...) I'd kill for a Carvin Legacy and a coupe of JEMs, plus some other niceties like Eventides, Digitech Whammys, Morley Little Aligators and Bad Horsies, and some Keeley modded BOSS distortion pedals, etc etc... the problem is I'm not rich and don't have the room to put all this junk. The XT lives nicely under my desk, though, and it didn't put a hole through my bank account.

Exactly. I'd rather have the originals any day of the week even it'd sound too similar to differentiate.
Lead sound designer Jeff Slingluff told me he once set up a blind listening test for some industry guitar players to see if they could tell the modelled Line 6 amp from the original. To start with, the listeners always picked out the Line 6 model even before a note was played — because the hum went away whenever the signal was switched to the Line 6 amplifier! To make things fairer, he set up a third tube amp between the two, and left it ticking over with no input so that there was background hum all the time, and after he'd done that, the results were split almost 50/50, which is exactly what you should get if the sounds are too close to tell apart.

It's not fair is it!

I've got an HRR strat- my first Fender. Needs fixing- a few of them had wood problems behind the trem- so I've gotta get a bit of wood slotted in there (oo-er!!). I've got a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck and the original DiMarzio whatever it is in the bridge, I love that guitar- It sounds ACE. Just need to pop it to Charlie Chandler to give it a damn fine fixing.
Wideboy- lovely guitar that, I take it it's an RG? I've got a RG500EX- see the avatar. Needs a new neck and some decent pickups, but I love that guitar too.
Other axes are a Fender Montara acoustic- lovely tone, needs a new machine head. And a bit of setting up. Also an Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty 3 pickup. Could do with some decent pickup as they squeal like piggies when the amp's cranked up. And a Fender Strat Plus. Needs the frets doing and the Lace pickups are a bit characterless, but another goodun.
In fact, most of my guitars need some attention to them. It's gonna cost a fortune, but I'm thinking of maybe doing some gigs next year, so it'll be required. Only my bass is in fine fettle. A washburn 5 string. It's lovely.
I might post a pic of the collection at some point.

Aye, the other one had the crack by the trem post, where the cavity was routed too big, I imagine yours is the same? Easy enough fix though unless it pulls too far, this one's reinforced around there with a bit of rock maple cut to shape and glued in, horrible job though.
Not many of these left... Feller from Iron Maiden has 5, bought them off Richie Sambora. I wish I could do that, just phone up, "Oi, Sambora, got any spare guitars?" Which Trace is it you've got? I had a Speed Twin 50 for ages, traded it in against my vox since I didn't have space for a halfstack any more :( It was ace.

I don't have a problem with the solo bits, its the chords, i'm not a strummer I'm a picker if that sounds right. i used to jam with a mate of mine that had played guitar since he was 6. i was jealous cause he was technically brilliant and him of me cause he couldn't ever improvise. So together I suppose it sounded alright
and yes smooth is quite easy for a solo, i was surprised
know what you mean we once auditioned a sax player that said he was grade 8 and we ask him to jam with us in e as ya do and he looked horrified, i ended up having to write all his riffs out, i started by learning chords then scales then modes its easy if you already have the music in you

sounds like your a pro then smudge....I may be able to play by ear so to speak...that don't mean anything, like i said, solo's are quite easy to pick up if ya can hear em right, but if you asked me wot an E minor 7th was i'd say erm duhh??...Ihave a natural ability to pick up an instrument and be able to knock aa tune out.....doesn't mean I'm any good
people have tried to teach me properly in the past and i've just ended up giggling in a heap cause of embarassment

i find books the best way then your pride doesnt have to come into it, if you got a book on scales and started with the pentatonic (blues) ones within no time you'd be making lead riffs up, thats what its all about for me so you can create your own, you'll have to pop over to mine for a coffee Dizz ive just been made redundant so ill be spending most of my days at home in the studio, when i say studio i mean a twelve by twelve room with acoustic foam everywhere with a miced up pearl kit, PC running cubase sx and reason 4 with firewire mixer and monitors plus my guitars and basses and a box full of bits like cabassa, guero, triangle, flutes and all kinds of hippy nonsense

metal!!!! think I might try that!
you may find some it quite easy, it appears quite slow in places and based around scales, its making the fingers do the rock-god a la Dragonforce bit that would be harder.
go on give it a go, let us know how ya get on

don't mean to offend people but dont they go out? i mean they must spend all their time outside of work playing guitar in the room, which i suppose can be fun at times but surly not all the time
I started playing when i was ten. Luckily for me child labour hasn't got the same demand these days. :p
