Had the clutch mechanism and rod out today as well as the gear linkage off, cleaned and greased everything.

Put it all back together, clutch felt ok as I'd set it to the same freeplay as before.
Selected first, there was a wierd click and the lever was still flapping about, tried it again, more wierd clicks, but with the engine off it felt like you could move through the gears ok but neutral was very hard to find.

Got it home, now its stuck in 4th or 5th, can get 6th but none of the lower gears.

Whats going on, what have I done to it?!?

Afternoon old Sport.

Tricky one without seeing it, but if the gearbox was fine before you took the clutch mechanism etc out, I would go over what you did again just to make sure everything is assembled & adjusted correctly.
Have you tried rocking the bike back & forth with the engine off, & seeing if you can get it into neutral?
It does sound rather like a selector problem, rather than a clutch problem.

Cheers.

OK just tried to get it down through the gears, rocking it about I think its gone into first or maybe second.
Can't find neutral and the whole thing is very notchy and wierd.

This is seeming scarily expensive to me

The other thing that could make a gearbox pretty vague is a broken detent spring, or gearlever return spring. Does the gearlever still have the same amount of spring in it? If you see what I mean.

They're both located behind the clutch.

Cheers.

Now less scary and more confusing.

Pulled all the bits off as per spannermans advice, put it back together and it appears to be working fine. Going to go for a spin and see what it does.
