1. sv400, anybody know anything about them?
2. will a 650 lump fit in a 400 frame?

please don`t say "why not just buy a 650!" cos that`s what i said to `bloke in the pub` i have also mentioned brakes n suspension

motors are identical is physical size.
frames are one and same,as is rest of parts.
650 is just bored and stroked 400.

I think it only has one front brake disc too

depending on what year it is.oo and up have dual.wheel has holes for disc on other side,so you can buy disc and lower leg.however disc diameter is different than 650.

Mechanical speedo as well, maybe? Wee things like that. Different pillion seat and centre plastics on the rear, on the early ones at least (no grabrail or cutouts for grabrail) Higher rev limit if memory serves too, I seem to remember someone swapping black boxes.

Have a look at svspares.com, at least I think it's .com, might be .co.uk, they do bits for 400 and 650 so should know any differences. I have had bits from them and found them to be very good.

Really...

Can't resist the derail...

So if I were to find said SV400 box and plug it into my SV650 would that mean I would raise the rev limiter? And considering I would be piloting, how long would my engine last?

thanx guys and it wouldn`t be the sv forum if it wasn`t derailed somewhere along the line ;)

Do not quote me, but yes, I believe that's the case. And y'know... I still wouldn't :) I doubt there's a lot of power up there on a stock-ish SV anyway, the power drops hard towards the standard limiter. No doubt Zadar'll know more about this, I'm dealing in total hearsay ;)

I aim to please.

I know I've looked at the Dyno charts to, I just can't help wanting an extra 2,000 revs; it takes me back to my IL4 days! (This might just end up line my futile quest for 7th gear).

Do not quote me

Sorry.

yes,box does plug in and bumps rev limit to 11.5 but you dont want to rev 650 that high.
northwind is correct on middle plastic piece,it does not have cut out for grab bar.
speedo is same.
carbs are different,35mm on 400 and 39mm on 650.air filter on 400 has smaller opening, air box is same.interesting thing is they both use same exhaust and cams.
sv400 dynoed and 48hp,650 at 65hp.mix 2 motors and you get sv500 with 60hp :)

At the risk of sounding stupid, why not?

bore x stroke,valve train....
you can do it but you taking chances.especially if motor is not stock.
suzuki bumped revs on 03 but they had some problems with that bike.crank and rods in most cases.things changed after 03.04/05/06 have small internal upgrades.07 got stronger rods....
you may be fine with stock street bike but what is the point, power starts to drop at 9.5k rpm's.
