Just sat here watching the Vicar of Dibley on TV and I was thinking of how well written and acted this show was.

So whats your favourite?

Porridge :D

I prefer its subtle use of language to the more manic style of stuff like Fawlty Towers.

Austin 1100. Amazing machine. Widely used for delivering water to areas suffering from drought. Always gallons of the stuff in the boot.

And my favourite sit-com would be The Grove Family, with Doxon of **** Green second.

Truth is, there are too many out there for one to be my favorite. I love Allo Allo as much as faulty towers

Steptoe & Son!!!

Considering there were basicly only two people to keep the whole show going, it was a brilliant (and still is) piece of classic television, the perfect love/hate relationship.
I don't think it's even dated that much either compared to other shows of that era and after.

Porridge - nuff said......

Pure quality - dont know if this counts but i love yes minister/yes prime minister. Twenty years old but the politics and the humour still feels sharp

AUF WIEDERSEHN PET!!!!! Thats the one :D :lol:Was that comedy?

Love thy Neighbour. It was bloody funny, but has now been turned into a metaphor for racism. I seem to remember it made fun of racists and that the racism went both ways.

More PC is anything by Ronnie Barker, Open All hours is hilarious.

The wackers. pity it was only one series in about 75. Or of a similar vintage, The dustbin men.
But....Yes it has to be Barker. Now is it porridge. Not a fan of going straight. or Open all hours.

Some comedies are good to watch perhaps due to some nostalgic value, however, many are not funny a 2nd time around.

Desmonds is being shown on Trouble (sky channel). I loved this the first time and laugh at the re-runs. Sadly Norman Beaton passed away and that was the end of the series.

OK, maybe not those three. I think that it would have to be Fawlty Towers. Nothing else has made me laugh as much. We're working our way though the entire Red Dwarf on DVD at the moment, so that's runner up.

Used to love Dads Army when I was a kid. I thought about getting the DVDs but not sure if I'd still like it as much.

I so did not get The Young Ones the first time round.

It was only when I saw a re-run a few years later that it made comical sense. :lolL

Sorry, I'm another that just can't pick a single one.
From the 70s it would have to be Porridge, Rising Damp or Fawlty Towers
From the 70s/80s Open All Hours
From the 90s Blackadder/Bottom

Currently, My Family.

I went to see Bottom Live: Hooligans Island at The Liverpool Empire many moons ago, and I have never laughed so much in all my life ... if you ever thought the original was funny, then the ad-libs in the live versions are just absolute class and worth the ticket-price alone.

I have the entire Blackadder series on DVD and it STILL makes me laugh, even though I've seen all the episodes at least half a dozen times (and some a lot more).

I'm not a big fan of "only fools", however it has contributed some of the finest comedy moments in British TV history ... Del boy falling thru the hatch and "Trigger" looking around to see where he'd gone = PURE CLASS.
Also where Rodney and Del dressed as Batman and Robin are running thru the streets and they scare off a mugger and then run into what they think is a fancy-dress party only to discover its really a wake! PMSL (almost literally!).

The Good Life, Red Dwarf, Father Ted. The Holy Trinity :D

Probably the Good Life is the best of the lot... It's just superb, it's aged but not dated. Father Ted's obviously genius, Red Dwarf had about 5 superb series and a couple of less good ones.

Other ones that haven't been mentioned... Black Books, The Thick of It, and Drop the Dead Donkey.

There's been a couple of disparaging comments about American sitcoms... I give you South Park and the Simpsons.

Austin 1100, you can tell it's an Austin by the crinkly grille. The Morris version had straight flutes.

That's my blue nylon anorak over there, I'll just go get it myself.
