View Full Version : Dyno Runs. Curvy and Pointy

Had my Curvy rejetted yesterday at Steve Jordans. Law had his Pointy remapped there a while ago. Both run on the same dyno so just the atmospheric conditions to allow for.
My bike runs a Stubby can on Akrapovic downpipes with an BMC air filter.
Laws bike has standard downpipes with a Yoshi tri-oval can and Pipercross air filter.
Results below. Mine first.

Yours seems less lumpy, that's a very flat torque curve you have.
Thats pretty similar, the pointy has a little bit more torque it seems and the pointy has that bit more bhp in the midrange. Not far off each other which I guess was the idea.

Not much in it, but my bike has a flatter torque line and holds on to max power for longer.
Can you explain the different colours?

Yeah Stu, if you look at the colour identifier at the bottom of the graph you'll see the time and other various information. The green line is the last run. The red one an earlier run where the jetting was not so accurate. Unfortuneately there is not a base run.
Also there are the 3 lines in each colour. The higher line is HP, the middle one the torque and the lower air ratio (I think). On the lower line the object is to get the line to be between the A/F upper limit and AF lower limit. Steves done a damn good job IMO.
unfortuneately there is not a base run. The bike as it arrived at Jordans.
.
Ah! that explains it. it's exactly as I thought, except I thought that
Red = 1st run as you turned up at 13:05 with not much wrong with it apart from running a bit lean (is that right?) at the extremes
Blue = 2nd run after Filter & Jet fitted before any set up work
Green = 14th run back to how you arrived but with fueling perfect & .66bhp down on the day.
However, I stand corrected and the most important thing is that you are happy and notice the improvement. Just a shame ypu can't see the improvement on a Dyno graph.
Is that the same with Law's ? The Red is not the very first run 10mins before they were finished?

My fault Stu. Didn't check my post. Some text seems to have gone missing.
The red run was not the first run as Steve started on the bike around 10.30. I believe the red run to be the first run with the kit fitted and from that he fine tuned it. Shows the advantage of a fuel injected bike as Laws remaps took minutes.
Also Steve found a sticking choke and the carbs were way out of balance.
No wonder the bike feels better. What surprises me is that the Stubby actually appears to work quite well. Bonus!:p

Hey... Nice curves  What filter have you got in that, a BMC Race?
Sarah's always saying how their dyno reads lower than a DJ equivalent- is there some correction in the numbers here, or do both your bikes just pull like beasts? :D

They are Dynojet corrected figures.
Good strong bike there and well on par with the carbed minitwins of alot lesser mileage.
Was good to meet you both yesterday and hope you had a good journey back. Apologies it took a while but Steve just wanted to be sure it was spot on for you!.
Just off to overlay Law's graph, yours and my SV700 so you can see some differences. Back in a mo!!!:D:smt077
What about base graph's Sarah - just so we can see the difference achieved?
Obviously fake this is the real dyno run from Suzuki

Ive got a base run stored from when my bike was minitwin spec, ie standard with system prior to being mapped.
Pete's base run would be more topical & Law's more personally relevant, than the presumably unlimited work gone into improving yours.

Cheers, I thought it might have that option to avoid annoyed customers disappointed with their numbers, since "dynojet horsepower"'s more or less the standard. It's a bit like the Penis Inch ;)

This is really interesting! Its interesting to note that at 4000rpm, both bikes are putting out as much power as my bike restricted. The power is really quite linear, and its good to note the torque curves - max torque at 7500 rpm, I expect this is what I use more of than overall power as I can definatly feel a drop off after 7500 on my restricted bike.
I would love to know the power curve for my bike, restricted then unrestricted

Nice to meet you too, Sarah. We didn't care how long it took, Steve was obviously determined to get the best result he could for us. It was a tad chilly on the way home. Pete put his waterproofs on for extra warmth..................the wimp:D

Here you go:
First one is: Green = My SV700 tuned bike
Blue = Laws injected SV650 with Yoshi/remap
Red = Petes Carbed SV650 with stubby/BMC/remap

Mine Versus Petes bike. Sorry off to Edinburgh tommorow so got to pack! so didnt have time to find the base runs from my bike. Pete's "base" run was the first one steve did.
Apologies they are so large..and note mine has an over rev built into the ECU.
Just showing these to show what differences there are and what can be gained..roughly 14bhp. Bit of fun thats all so dont want a lengthy debate!!

you guys can tune air/fuel some more.
I was going to do a photoshop overlay of the two graphs just to compare your A/F with the ones above Zadar, but the scale on your graph is just to small, suffice to say, they are all very very close :)
let see if this one comes out better.

It's a road filter but Steve had to open it up a bit. To get more flow I guess. :p

Peak on my bike is virtually the same as SVracers on the Dynapro of 84, just without the extra revs, oh and the flatslides sound better:smt045
Cant find my dynapro one, but it made 64 before tune so 20hp on the same dyno similar conditions
