View Full Version : Men and flowers
Can I have the wisdom of the org please.
Is it acceptable for a bloke to give flowers to another bloke? If you're male, how would you feel if another bloke gave you flowers?

Slightly bizarre as there's plenty of other things to give another bloke first, like beer. Unless their a horticulturist ( sp )
Is someone ill?

Depends what for?
Its abit errrmmmm odd. Depends in what context I guess.
I personally would not be fussed at all about flowers no matter what the situation.
When I was in hospital I got loads and was that drugged and in paid I never even knew they were there.
The Cards I could read when I was getting better/better were nice though.

If its illness just take um and have a laugh and a joke about it may cheer them up.

Depends on the flowers. If its something for my garden, fantastic (if i had a garden). If its a bunch of flowers, and you knew I was with maria, I would feel slightly bemused and as if you are proposing something I am not inclined to accept.
Of course, if they re pretty I shall take them and pass them onto Maria, claiming that I found them myself :D
Anyway, who do you want to buy flowers for?

Depends on the context.....and of course how secure you are in your sexuality.

Depends on who was giving them to me. If they were given with a declaration of undying love, then I would be uneasy and politely refuse (as I would from a lady, unless I felt the same). But if they came from a friend / colleague then I would accept in the spirit they were given.
I have given flowers to a chap myself. He is gay and it was to congratulate him on getting 'engaged' for his civil partnership.

Now if it was a Marujuna ( sp ) plant, thats different........duuuude.......sweeeet!
Never give a bloke flowers. Ever. Simple rule.
There are a few times in life when it's acceptable to cross certain boundaries with a bloke. For example, putting your hand on another man's shoulder is only accepetable if the other man has just scored a goal for your pub team in a Local brewery teams Final (and ONLY IF the goal was worthy of Pele). Another time may be when one of your relatives has just died saving a bus full of nuns from a fiery cliff top death. In such a situation it is accpetable to put you ENTIRE arm around said friend for up to 5 seconds.
At all other times outward displays of emotion should be reduced to a pint of beer down the pub.
Anything else is almost as wrong as trying to talk to the bloke next to you at a trough in the little Dirk's room at your local den of iniquity.

Can you even find the courage to give em to a bird :-P jeez i forgot you're scared to talk to them :-P
EDIT: Aimed at Kinvig :D
Grateful male client has delivered a bunch to me. I believe - but don't know for certain - that he is straight: there could be some doubt about it but 'are you gay?' is not the sort of thing I ask clients.
Rest of office thinks this is all highly out of order. I don't, I think it's a nice thing to do.

um, there's a girl that regularily gets flowers from the expensive florist, she gets really "down" quite a bit & they perk her up a bit. But alas she is only a friend - despite the odd request from me for more.
It's just girls that wesr hi-vis jackets & hard hats that I struggle with.

They were definitely just for you? Maybe it seemed reasonable to him as a gift to the whole office.

Ed,
You could have got the answer you sought if when receiving said boquet, you had simply said..."how nice, makes a pleasant change as my other clients normally bring me a nice bottle of Scotch."
Maybe he would have given an idea as to why flowers.
Failing that it could be that you have given off altogether the wrong signals and he wants a piece of your firm but beautifully proportioned a*s. You better deal with it!;):p
seems a bit strange. but im sure it was meant as a nice gesture.
Y'all got me wondering now!!

Next time your admirer calls in to the office to discuss "legal matters" Ed it might be an idea to have the photographs of your good lady and daughter more prominently displayed. Then again he might see that as a more interesting challenge. To try to turn you around,(oops pardon the pun!:p)
If it's a purely platonic gesture, then although slightly odd, not a problem in itself. If however, your client may have mis-understood you, then it needs nipping in the bud. :flower:

Tiger lilies and bamboo? I got those a couple of weeks ago, the flowers just died but the bamboo is going strong.
I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe he sent 2 gifts out at the same time and now his female accountant is downing single malt...

Don't worry about it!! In this day and age he probably was trying not to offend any non-drinkers by sending scotch! If you read too much into things you will be too worried.
Which lilies were they?
Lily ( Calla), Beauty
Lily (Day), Conquetry
Lily (Eucharis), Maiden, charms
Lily (Tiger)Wealth; Pride; Prosperity
Lily of the Valley; Sweetness; Humility; Return of happiness
Longi Lily; Pure, Modest

I don't know. They're big and white flowers, long stalks. Very sweet smell. Y'know, the sort that some peeps cut the stamens out of, because the pollen is so sticky and leaves yellow marks.
i would be a bit worried if a bloke bought me flowers?

Were they personally delivered by him?? If not then he could have asked his (presumably female) secretary or PA to send a thank you and thus they sent flowers...
I deffo wouldnt read too much into it, I have many gay friends and if they bought me flowers i'd just laugh at them ;P

ha ha ha... sorry i`m just reading the above description of lily`s with greenery!!!!
i think its considered ok to send flowers from male to male in this day and age and the flower you`re supposed to send to a guy is in fact Lily`s.
He`s probs as, already suggested, asked his secretary to send a "thank you" and they probs have a contract with an expensive florist somewhere. I love lily`s and if you don`t want em send them on to me :D
PS: Did they have a white hankie hanging out of the packaging??????
