Thanks to everyone for the votes last month, thought I'd get this months underway. hopefully the subject hasn't been done before, couldn't find it in the search.

This months theme:
Motion
being as we are all driven (no pun intended) by the sensation of motion I thought we might be able to come up with some creative pictures portraying it. I chose this example to be a little different from the usual light trails, can be any kind of motion.

http://www.brettnet.co.uk/gallery2/Tempupload/firepois%28800%29.jpg (http://www.brettnet.co.uk/gallery2/Tempupload/firepois.jpg)
The pic is my 16 year old brother with his Fire Pois just incase anyone wondered :)

Hope thats ok.

It was only in my view... I did not or have not counted any votes as It's not my competition...

So we running with this or should we continue voting for October?

Brettus
04-11-07, 04:31 PM
Can't deprive the winner of October's the only prize, especially due to my stupidity, need to get the october one wrapped up though so the winner can pick their topic and mods can delete this one. (My opinion anyhow) but maybe I should just be seen and not heard ;)

Left side in the photo or true river left? Left side of photo is true boulder choke out of shot. The line is hard true river left, heading right to exit falls down the center.

Luckypants
05-11-07, 11:10 AM
He certainly is fearless! I have photos of us all on that fall (my first kayaking trip in 3 years!) last January. The 'V' sign is his trademark going off a drop. Actually the rapid in Choo's phot is trickier as it requires more complex manoevering, this is more of a bottle tester.

His first waterfall was at age 13 on the Afon Gamlan, a 15 footer. His sis ran Low Force at age 12.

Oh right.
No, I was thinking this:
Probably keeping right after the falls unless I really got spat out hard and had no
choice in the soupy stuff at the bottom there.

Fair play to your young 'fla. He is about to get ate by that. Ha ha. He is on the line right though. And is pointing in the right direction....
I have ehhh.... more "sense" lets call it. (ie less balls.)

I have let go of one end of a paddle though a couple of times, if I am being seriously ate. A couple of times its just been ripped out of one hand. I can keep one hand on it, and let it flap about, and then gather my sh!t once things get a little more calm, and do a touchy feely roll up.

suggestion...

and i apologise if its been mentioned before...

but there's a few freds on the site with peoples asking for recommendations of cameras, dunno if its worth stating underneath your pic what was used to take the photo. it could help get more votes too, if a stunner was taken with a boxed brownie it might get more kudos than if somebody's taken a good pic with 2 grands worth of kit.

Not that easily I think.
You just have to be good enough to able to lock onto the car, and pan with it. Believe it or not.

Or at least that's the way I have seen press guys doing it.

(Thats a very good shot by the way.)

Richie
06-11-07, 09:45 PM
I think buy panning the car with the camera and using a high shutter speed

I think buy panning the car with the camera and using a high shutter speed

thats how I do it, but it's not very easy and I'm still learning how to use my camera

Taken at Donnington this year,

Yes it is by getting a good focus on the car and (trying) to pan with it, although if you use too high a shutter speed you will reduce the motion effect such as the wheel blur etc.
That one was taken at 200mm and 1/100th sec, i myself was amazed at how well it came out so much so that i got it printed 30"x20" and have it on my wall :):)

What exposure time are people using to get the light trail, and water cascading effect?

I have just bought a new camera last night so need to start playing about.

Not my favourite, but best captured motion image is below, took on my works old point and shoot camera before I bought my own.

I have used 1 second exposures to get that. Just make sure the camera is as steady as you can. (Little beanbags are great for a makeshift tripod.)

Haha I think I have more chance of having a tripod around than a little bean bag :-P. That car shot is stunning!

philipMac
07-11-07, 06:26 PM
A little beanbag is the man for that stuff. Try lugging a tripod around for a day or two. There is almost always a spot that you can set up a bean bag to rest the camera on.
And if there isn't.. you'll just end up with an artsy unusual angle. ;)

I prefer it even to those mini tripods you can get now, its more flexible, you can drape it over a branch or railings or whatever. You can just make one even, use fine seeds like flax.

What did you fix the camera to?

stewie
20-11-07, 04:45 PM
Well first off I had to stow the bunk then move the on board fridge off its runners and put it in the passenger footwell. Then I attatched a tripod by means of several tie wraps to the runners and a couple of bungees, I opened the shutter using a 2 ft remote release with me left hand and timed the exposures with a countdown timer on me phone.
