Other then the blindingly obvious what are the differences in the 1.9 and the 1.6?

my nephew had the 1.9 and he always said the 1.9 was better than the 1.6? the alloys look better to on the 1.9.

The main thing about 205 GTIs, it seems, is they're old and not that well made... A good one's ace, but they're pricey, that's one of the options I looked at a while back since I like 'em (with an MI16 motor in it :smt050). You can get a decent 206 GTI6 for about the same as a well kept 205 GTI, it seems, so unless you're happy with a sheddy one it's getting a bit tricky. Classic hot hatches etc are starting to get up to silly money, if they're well kept, and if not then some are more restorable than others. It seems to me that the VWs are easier to find in good shape, they were made better than most and often looked after better too.
Where's Daimo to sell you a Nova with a red top, or an Astra GTI?

Just be careful of re-badged 1.6's which are made to look like 1.9's...
Selling mine now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250184991257&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=015 ....yours for £4k.
If you can deal with the fact i'm miles away you're sure to enjoy the run home.

I could spend your 5k easily for you. Its good looking, fast and fun.
Its italian, semi automatic and has 2 spark plugs per cylinder:smt067
You may need AA or RAC membership with it but thats the fun of motoring.

If I'm stealing it, insurance is the least of my worries.

If you can't drive it be a very short theft.
