im looking to make some quick and easy money and i have heard of these surveys that pay you for your time. It all looks ok, you dont have to give bank details as they pay by cheque or into a paypal account.
i just typed into google - paid online surveys and there are hundreds to choose from.
Do you think they are ok to sign up to????:smt024

Should be fine, though I'd suggest making sure that any companies that you sign up with are Market Research Society Members - means that they are carrying out genuine reserach, and are not going to sell your details to people wanting to sell you rubbish

[pessimist-mode]Bah to surveys....surely in the amount of time you have spent filling them in, you could have done some real work and earned more.

Don't do it.

Let's look at what's going on here. They're paying you for something. WHY?

It sounds too good to be true - you just answer a few details & get paid for it? Are they paying you for your time? How nice.....but what's in it for them?

They're getting loads of data from you. What can they do with it? Well assuming you're not going to do anything as stupid as say, "This is my name, my address, my telephone number, my mobile number ets etc etc". Then what else can they do?

Without knowing your exact personal details you are still giving loads of useful info that can be used demographically to target you. Will they ask for your post code? Or town where you live? Will they ask general personal details, i.e. "What is the gross income of your household?", "How many cars/TVs/PCs/etc do you own?", "Where do you shop? Go on holiday etc"

This info will then be sold on & on for the marketer to make ca$h on your details. The companies that sue that info will then be able to target you by direct mail shots/flyers/chuggers in your local high street/door-to-door sales men.

Your neighbours will also be on the receiving end of this junk mail etc.

IF you live in Clapham, please move out - I get so much of this crap thru' my door/am answering the door to salesmen with their shoddy wares/dodging teh charity muggers on my way home from the high street.

Absolute rubbish. If you sign up with a reputable market research company (as mentioned before an MRS accredited organisation) they do not sell your data for junk mail, etc purposes. If they did you could do them for a breach of Data Protection Act.

It would seem that you've never worked in the field of marketing, where information about what people think about your goods/services or new offerings is worth money. Companies pay research agencies to collect this information, which means that they can afford to pay you for your contibution.

Conveniently (for me) the value of this information happens to be why I have a job, and hence can afford to ride a motorbike. so it can only be a good thing...

If you sign up to a reputable company & only do online MR then yes you should have nothing to fear for your personally identifiable info- if you check all the "Do not pester me" boxes. That's a big IF & relies on trusting some third party. And that's only for personally identifiable i.e. name & address -However my point was the more general stuff like post code & How much does your household earn is not goverened by DPA. You can still get targetted. Look at the crap that falls out of your Sunday paper.

Yes, I have worked in Market Research Cos. And Yes I work with a company that handles sensitive identifiable data I(and regularily burst a blood vessel when I hear that colleagues that should know better have just emailed senstive info without using any encryption.

Bite me!
