Anybody got any experiences of Scotspeed? Anybody? A search reveals no matches. None. Nada.
Bought a bike? Had a service? Popped in for coffee to get out of the rain?
Bueller? Bueller?
I was in for a lookey round a couple of years ago. Friendly bunch.
Had some nice 2nd hand bikes, good selection of spares and clothing etc. in stock.
Other than that, I couldn't say. It wasn't raining so i didn't get to taste the coffee!

Gotta be honest, they've got a VERY mixed following down here, some love them, others (most of the people I've spoken to at least) can't stand them and prefer to go to Carlisle / Glasgow instead.
Personally whenever I've been there they've been either shut (as in, at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon!?) or I've been ignored - so I went to Carlisle & bought all my gear from Hein Gericke (who have been brilliant with me so far) instead.
I'm all for supporting local / small businesses where & whenever I can, but the difference in service between what I've experience at ScotSpeed and HG was chalk & cheese, and (Duncan Bannatyne voice ON), 'fur tha' reason un tha' reason only... I'll not be back'

Basically my OH phoned Cupar to order my new SV yesterday afternoon, after being told they'd do it for £4,000. Nope, the price was now £4,200, take it or leave it, and they were less than helpful. I was surprised cos we had fab service from Perth branch, but hey ho.
Anyway, he phoned around and the best price was Scotspeed, £4000 including fitting and supplying the scottoiler and the restrictor which I need. They also phoned back twice regarding choosing a regi number (which is similar to my name, the woman picked it out cos she noticed!) and a couple of other questions. So, they have been helpful so far, long may it continue.

nothing to do with Scotspeed but thought I would add
my workmate bought an K7 GSXR 750 at the summer he was quoted £8000 from Mickey Oates, £7500 from Cupar and £7000 from Taz with scottoiler fitted.
Needless to say supporting local business went out the window and he enjoyed running it in coming home from Taz.

Sorry to resserect this old thread, but thought it's maybe worth mentioning that Scotspeed have been taken over by new management and the place has been dragged up an awful lot in the past few months.
The atmosphere is much, much better and there's a more friendly air to the place than before.

You think? I really didn't like the old place, mostly full of cheapo tat I thought.
At least now they're trying to bring in some half decent stuff, e.g. Shoei lids, Givi Luggage, and (awaits the flaming) BKS Leathers are due in shortly too.
Certainly better that the old days when it was Akito or 'generic branded' stuff.
My mates just got a stonking deal on a V-Strom 1000 from there yesterday, so it seems like they're at least trying.

Firstly I don't own an SV but was interested in the Scotspeed subject. 3 years ago their attitude was rotten when I asked for a warranty service for a Suzuki C90 Boulevard got it done but at £106.00 for an oil and filter change and a really crap attitude never went back. Met an old friend who works ther nowand was in on 14/03/09 and they are totally different. Got a service and MOT booked for next week and will say how it goes

My bike is due its first service in the next 200 miles or so. Would it be wise for me to do the service myself or wiser to just take it to Suzuki. I live in Glasgow and bought my bike from North Harbour Suzuki in Ayrshire. Do I need to take it there or can I take it to MOM or somewhere else in Glasgow?
BTW am still in the running in process and occasionaly i've rev'd to 7k rpm. I know the book says 5500rpm but would the extra 1500rpm do much harm. Its only been short blasts and the bike was up to temperature (76 i think) before i hit the 7k mark and had previously done 150 miles.

Fact is, Scotspeed changed hands just a few months ago when the old owners sold up. Everyone has differing experiences with different places. I have to say i havn't used the new management (& unlikely to now that i have a honda). There's one thing about the old mob though, The owner knew bikes inside out & upside down. I'm sure there are many happy tails to be told and some not so happy, like everywhere. I got two good new SV deals from them in the past that the city boys couldn't, sorry.... were too arrogant to touch. Just need to phone around and be happy to travel a bit :riding:

Did you buy your bike 'brand new'? If so, don't you have to return to the original dealer to keep the two year warranty??
Modern engines are pretty bullet proof and there is a train of thought that recommends varying the revs, because the engine will perform better in the long run. I have heard "Do it by the book and the engine will last longer, give it welly from the start (and I'm not suggesting that is what you are doing!), it will make more power!"
Good luck. :D

No, used to be that but now it has to be done by a qualified mechanic to maintain the waranty.. Not nessesarily the dealer.

By the way, RamJam, the first service is really important. After those first few miles, it is really important that the oil and oil filter get changed so that you get rid of the minute particles that might be milling about in the engine. I suppose it depends on how confident you are working on your bike.
Although I went up to Cupar (where I bought my bike from) for all the initial services, as soon as the two years were up, the OH now does it. After the first service, I got home and noticed the breather pipes were hanging off! I don't get those kind of problems when the OH does it.

Yeah bought the bike new from North Harbour Suzuki. Will just take it to them to get the first service and the stamp in the book. Does anyone knoe what oil the dealers use in bikes these days. Is it cheap mineral stuff?
Am i able to specify what oil goes into the bike if I pay the xtra for it? looking at either Motul or Silkolene.

I got my bike from them in Nov 07 and was more than happy with their service. Cheaper by a long way for my bike too.

Had my Suzuki boulevard serviced at Scotspeed today and in addition to a free MOT for returning, the service cost £204.00 Got a cupof tea (hand made by the new boss) and a Tunnocks wafer!! The biggest plus though was 4hrs to play on an SV650. A huge difference to my cruiser but a good way to put the time in. Higher bars would have helped but good fun just the same.So Scotspeed will get my business again.

I gotta say that the reason the shop has got smaller is that it got flooded out by the nith late last year, I've been in there a few time to buy stuff and since scotspeed has been taken over I find the staff more accomadating than the previous owners. I can't wait for the day he reopens to full capacity again wich I heard is gonna be not to far in the future.:smt018

No, if you look at the date I posted, it was long before the flood. Anyway....read this...
