On the news this morning, they had pictures of the recovered bodies of the firefighters that were found in the collapsed building being transported, very slowly, by police motorcycle escort in a private ambulance down a road lined with firefighters and other rescue-workers and people. Its so sad they died, but at the same time very releiving to know that at least their bodies have been found and their families can get on with the greiving process. I don't know why, but things like this always hit me quite hard, I guess its just the innocent and very selfless job that these guys do, and same with other people like soldiers and police and stuff who die in the line of duty, just trying to keep us all safe and protected.
So to the three guys that died, RIP. To their families, my condolences and sympathies. And also to those people who keep working every day to keep the rest of us safe, Thankyou.

We had a minutes silence at our station Monday, 10 miuntes later got called to a Fire at a Timber merchants. There was a huge spent fire work in the yard that must of caused it. I was in a team that went into check the warehouse. It sent a chiver down my spine as I could just see the guys in similar circumstance.
RIP guys

+1 to wot Matt sed
It would have been horrendous if they had not been found. I couldnt imagine having to live not knowing where a loved one was.
RIP
I work with a couple of the Retained lads up here. Mostly it's RTA's here but occasionally big fires too.
There is a local idiot pyromaniac who had a spate of starting fires in a supermarket and car showroom. The stuff the lads were telling me about going into an enclosed space with BA, knowing the cars were full of petrol, OxyAcetylene cylinders, gas heaters, stuff everywhere that could go anytime really brought home the dangers.
Brave heroes - every one of you.

All of us civvies should remember that despite a high degree of training Firefighters risk their lives on an almost daily basis. This should be particularly remembered by those that criticise at what they perceive to be nothing but a glorified social club in between emergency calls.

They deserve breaks and relaxation inbetween what they have to deal with.
I rememember watching a program where a girl had been crushed in her car after she was hit in the rear by a truck, waiting in tsationary traffic. I would hate to have been the person cutting out her body, and I cried as the police officer sat in his car saying he was about to go tell the family the bad news
Worst jobs in the world, dosnt get any worse than that. Again chaps and chapesses, thankyou for everything, cant be said enough

Fatalities at RTC are probably the worst especially when theres children involved. A recent incident a daughter was crying for her mother who had died as a result of her injuries but she didn't know. What do you tell them?
Everyone deals with it different ways, some are imune ( not many ), some have a laugh and joke ( by this I mean its how people deal with it) others go quiet. I usually have a cry at home on my own or when telling the wife if its quite serious.
We all know we have a job to do, when its finished and were back is when it begins to sink in.
Glad they found them, I feared that there bodies would be lost as they may have burned in the heat of the fire.
At least thier famlies can give them a propper send off.

One is my friends cousin, they are very relieved that they have found the bodies, they were considering just a memorial service rather than funeral.
One chap was only married 4 weeks ago.
Very sad for this area.

Exactly what i used to do when i was in, obviously there is a time and a place for the laughing, joking side of things.
RIP to the people involved and condolencies to there families.
Probably the worst scenario i was ever involved in was an ex colleague of mine, we got called to an RTC and it was his daughter involved, she died at the scene yet he remiained calm and professional through out, how the hell he done it i'll never know :(
I missed all the news last weekend until Sunday evening when I tried to find out what was going on after getting caulght-up in the search and rescue convoy, couldn't believe it :(. I'm so glad they did find the bodies for the sake of the families and loved ones, I know the area well and can imagine it has hit the community very hard.
Lou, thoughts and condolences to your friend.
Cuffy, I totally agree, how the hell could anyone go through that without losing their mind?
