The Gen 1 toolkits were excellent and pretty comprehensive, but then the bike was built in a time when manufacturers generally still supplied proper toolkits.

Mind you, most modern bikes have no space under the seat for a tool kit due to the silly styling of modern bikes.

Does your Honda have a Fuji nut on the rear axle? I first encountered these on my XSR700 but Suzuki have now adopted using them too. They are a type of locknut that has two thin metal "blades" that engage with the threads, they are attached to the nut but can move slightly.

They work well as a locknut but with dirt ingress can jam so hard they strip the thread of the axle. My friend with an MT-07 had to replace his axle because of that and it's an occasional thread (ouch) on the MT-07/XSR700 forums.

Thankfully not. I know of this kind of nut, I had it on gearbox sprocket on a Suzuki gsx750e. You could only undo it with an air impact driver.

The Transalp has a wide hollow axle hence the larger nut size I guess. I think the SV was 24mm.

I lied. I've picked up the repaired wheel and had fun refitting it. And guess what, the nut is the Fuji type, I just didn't notice before.

Kissinger - I remember, as a kid, this man being on tv a lot (this was the Vietnam era) - I recall he had a thick accent but I didn't realise what an evil man he was. His advice (to Nixon) to bomb Cambodia killed hundreds of thousands and led to the rise of the Khmer Rouge. He supported right wing regimes/military coups in various parts of the world (Chile, East Timor, Argentina, West Pakistan now Bangladesh), the list goes on.


On a related note a staggering statistic - during the American bombing of Laos, 2.5 million tons of ordnance was dropped which equates to a planeload of bombs every 8 minutes, 24 hours a day for 9 years. It is the most heavily bombed country per capita in history.

Just as an aside I made this for the next time I need to raise and fit my rear wheel off the ground and align the axle from an idea on the US SV site,

You don't have to use wood. Hard foam blocks were used as well. Base is a bit of old hardboard or chipboard. I've tested it under the fitted rear wheel and it will work great :)

The bendy Plug spanner is a must. I even use the back of it to take out my Rad bolts when checking my front plug and or doing a Carb sync :D
