Max max
http://pics.filmaffinity.com/Mad_Max...1909-large.jpg It looks like a continuation of the other Max films dropping the viewing straight into the action. The film is visually and aurally amazing afterall whats not to like about loud engines? To sum up the plot as a car crash would be too kind and yes there are plenty of car crashes. Set in the barren wastelands of down town New york it has a feeling of a cross between Road trip and Thelma and Louise. A truck load of kidnapped models heading to a commune paradise, driven by Theron with more balls than the Neanderthal Butler, being chased by rejects of Halloween pretty much sums its up. The twist in the plot is they head back one they realise they've made a wrong turn. Its the kind of film you can surf on your phone and watch at the same time without missing too much. 4/10 if you must |

The worlds end
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...End_poster.jpg The cast of whos whos in british comedy brings promise. Consisting of Pegg and Frost's A team assemble you get a feeling that it could be a good night at the movies with plenty of laughs. The film follows a bunch of likely friends that have settled into mid-lifedom except for one that never left the 1990s. Looking to finish the Golden Mile pub crawl from the 1990s our 40+ friends revisit Newton Haven to complete their mission. It is funny in places but unfortunately lacks originality with plenty of cues from Shaun of the dead ( replace zombies with robots), Hot fuzz ( cops ahoy) and a bit of Dr Who. Thats not to say its not pleasurable but akin to eating your second helping of Ice cream, not as sensational as the first and you feel a little queasy. The 90s soundtrack complements the action allowing the viewer to reminiscence their youth as the film rolls on. 6/10 Its worth watching if you havent had a recent binge of Pegg and Frost , otherwise wait until you've fully digested for maximum enjoyment. |

Please see smile of the day for my latest film.
London Has Fallen, so bad it's almost brilliant. But not good enough to watch again. |
Re: Films I've watched recently...
I didn't get Mad Max either, visually impressive but no story line to speak of.

Films I've watched recently...
The Legend of Barney Thomson.
Black comedy with Robert Carlyle and Ray Winstone. I really enjoyed it but I think that was partly because of the patter and that I know the locations it was shot in - all the nice bits of Glasgow...Bridgeton, The Barras, Saracens Head etc. Suvveners might need subtitles and will end up thinking Glasgow's a right ****hole. Which it mostly is. Gave it 5 stars on Netflix. One of those was probably for the nostalgia. |
Re: Films I've watched recently...
Zootropolis kids movie, better than Batman vs Superman

Harry Brown
http://www.gstatic.com/tv/thumb/movi...83_p_v8_aa.jpg It is a british film about life on an estate in London. A gritty storyline that makes eastenders look like a holiday in butlins. An gang of youths create havoc terrorising residents and congregating by a subway. When one old resident has had enough and takes matter into his own hands, he suffers the consequence of his actions. Caine suffers more misery and the loss of his wife and best friend reignites his desire for vengence. One by one he takes out the ring leaders with Deathwish style efficiency. Plan B acts like he sings if that makes any sense. There are body counts and c bombs a plenty through out the film and certainly not one to watch with your grandmother let alone your mum. The plot twist serves up a treat at the end which finishes the film off. Yes its like watching Deathwish set in Peckham and has the hallmarks of a Guy Ritchie film on a Dr who budget but it couldve been a lot worse. 6/10 Slow burner with fruity language and contains plenty of wooden acting and violence |
