Re: My first off/accident!! - Miss my bike already!

Hi. Well basically, the gear box must have jammed, then he must have sorted it out (basically, im thinking the moron shoved into P by mistake, then corrected it and accelerated just as i hit him or something)!...

Either way, i remember flying forwards, legs over head, splat on back.
So on the floor with my laid down bike to the left (facing the wrong way after it hit me) and the BMW car about 20m ahead.

There were just bits from my bike everywhere, and it was the saddest site ever. Rather the bike than me though!

Iif my bike gets written off and I want to keep it, I obviously can not pay the quote of £5808.

Could I just not get the list of parts I need from the dealer, find them (on ebay, etc over a painstaking amount of time), and then present my parts and bike to a mechanic and just pay labour?

This is the only realistic way I can save my bike!...
Are there any obvious things I can do that I'm overlooking?

Have you got any photos of the damage?

Na. I haven't seen my bike since the accident. Its currently being held at some accident repair specialist. I might be tempted to take a drive there and inspect it myself, perhaps taking some pics as well.

I don't know the first thing about repairing bikes/mechanics of stuff, etc, but if there's a cheaper way of saving my bike, gotta go for it!

Also what is actually broken on the bike? Some of bits may be found cheap enough; you could get going as a priorty then make it look nice when you have more money.

What did your witness actually see and say? What did you say to the police and what did they say to you?.

According to repair centre, there's an endless list of repair required.

My witness was an off-duty police officer on a motorbike! He said he saw what happened - and I remember him at one point saying something like 'there's nothing you can do when that happens' or along those lines. He also remembers the driver apologising to me and saying his 'gearbox jammed'.

Pretty much told the police the story from my perspective as it panned out. Did the same with the driver. As long as there is no hint of foul play, the police just wash their hands of it, and let the insurance solicitors battle it out!

Gonna be a long process me thinks!:?

When you know whats broken, have photos ect I'm sure people will be able to offer advice; but getting it working and road legal if that is needed is the key thing. Good Luck.

I'd be tempted to get your bike back from the garage and store it yourself, otherwise there is going to be a huge storage fee and if the worse comes to the worse and you end up getting nothing from the other party that will only add to your grief. The bike is still yours until an insurance company pay you for it so you can call the tune.

Surely thats admiting that its his fault, no? He has said that his car is the cause of the accident.

I think you have got a good claim, and if it does go down as his though, which I think it will, then also make a claim for injuries etc. That may get you some money towards a new bike...?
