That seems a little high for a SK3.

Some K3's had dodgy cranks that caused a horrendous knock. Check to see if the work has been done or checked out. The clutches rattle when disengaged but this is nothing to worry about if it's not too bad. Baskets do fall off though. There is a green connector under the tank that can burn out and cause a dead bike.

See it all at these forums. link below. Some really high milage bikes on there.

So you think its a bit expensive...

Guess i could put it to them like this. "I like the bike (if i do of course) but i have seen bikes of lower miles and similar specs (extra's) that are a fair amount cheaper. What is the lowest price you are willing to go to guarentee this sale?" See what they say and go from there...

What you think? :p

Find comparable bikes and print out copies of the adverts. show him successively cheaper bikes as the negotiations go on.
Sit down and haggle with him.
Make it clear you are happy to walk away.
Have a maximum price you are willing to pay in your head, don't tell him this unless you have to though.
Tell him you're seeing another bike the same day but you'll agree to buy his if he will do the price you want etc.

I haggled for an hour when I bought my SV650. First time I'd ever haggled for anything in my life and it was good fun. My opening line was, it's a nice bike but you can't seriously expect anyone to pay that much for it?

You don't have to buy it so don't feel pressured. If he won't do a price that seems fair to you, based on your research, then don't buy it.

Hi ,
I thought briefly about changing my k5 sv650s when it was 18 months old , it had about 20 k on it , got offered 2 grand part x ( it worth more to me than this ). That was against a sv1000s 04 plate with 12k on clock up for 3700 if I remember right.
I don't think its a great deal the dealer is offering you , esp this time of year , sv1000 not a big seller , take a good look round , if you can wait just after Christmas is a good time when the credit card bills arrive !
Good luck

Cheers Steve

Re: help - mileage question!

Well thanks for all the advise!

Went and had a ride on it... Engine seemed good but it was let down by the dealers! They didnt seem to care, heh when i went in there to see about test riding it i said, could you stiffen the back suspension a tad when you ready it for the road and also the front tyre was illegal (or at least DAMN close)!

It all felt wrong because of the back suspension and the fact that the gear lever was way high, to go down gears i had to remove my foot from the peg by a way! :S The whole feel wasnt great and the guys didnt seem to gove a **** wether i liked it or not so i said im looking about.

Screw them if they cant be bothered!

So top tip dont use claycross Suzuki dealers! They are NOT friendly, they are money grabbing *******s (more so than normally acceptable!)

Mean while if anyone sees any good thou's in the North of the country please let me know :D

p.s. went to a triumph dealers on the way home from the thou ride... i think if there wasnt a 7 months waiting list i might now own a street triple. Didnt ride it (have to be 25 Year old)but you can tell just from sitting on it its a beuty!

Keep an eye on this well sorted SK3. It's close to you and may be worth a viewing.

Just as a side note to this thread, my K6 SV650S has 31k miles on the clock now. I had it valued for a part-ex, at a dealership (though a H*nda one - if that matters), and he priced it as a high milage K5, which came out at £2500.

Needless to say I laughed at him & walked away from the GSX-R I was looking to part-ex mine for. I'd of needed £1100 to throw at an older model GSX-R. Not happening.

I would suggest you do the same (I'm assuming yours is a K5 since you say it's done 24k in 2 years).

Yes Baph, K5.

Im thinking now to stay with this and save up some more... I'll keep and eye out on some decent deals on many bikes SVthou included. Modding my 650 to be lighter (if anyone knows easy cheap ways - not £1000 wheels!) and get it to about 80BHP in real world it wond be a million miles of the thou.

There are some SVthou still going new, £5300 i seen one. Very interesting imo. But im not so sure... I raced my mate who recently got a SVthou and tbh upto (indicated) 130MPH he hardly left me. HA HA HA. I do weigh about a stone less but then he does have a **** load more power, or should.

Wait and see...
