Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
I work in Brentford and all the cars use the bus lanes as well!! Never mind bikes...........twits.

Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
i used to work in Aylesbury. They have opend the majority of bus lanes to bikes there, and designed a decent(ish) bicycle path network too to keep everyone happy. I know space is of a premium in London, but i really don't see how motorbikes using a cycle lane could be a real problem. As a user of both push bikes and motorbikes, I much prefer to share my road with a bike than a f'in bus (who think it is fine to drive so close to the curb that I have to hop onto the pavement to avoid being squashed!)

Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
Well I'm glad the Evening Standard have exposed it. Perhaps with the truth and the true stats from the draft report made public, they'll be forced to continue using the true stats in the final report. They'll have the cheek to call it "an independant report based on research by..."

Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
No hint of corruption in Londons government of course.
Well really,what did you expect?The truth?:cyclopsani: |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
"Cycling campaign group CTC said "noisy" motorcycles travelling at higher speeds would intimidate cyclists, threatening the increase in commuters turning to bicycles."
What the hell are buses if not intimidating and travelling at high speed!! Bus drivers in London number among the worst and most impatient drivers I have ever seen, far more dangerous to cyclists than any bike I can think of..... ...apart from a dominos pizza delivery moped perhaps  |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
I love this report.
Thanks for the report, but thats not the answer we're looking for... Come back and tell us Motorbikes are crazed killers that cause more accidents, and should be banned from the london roads LOL - you know they will now call the study bogus, and order another 3 year study on different roads, hoping for different results. |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
I think this is the second such report - the first one was buried as well.
I'm not a londoner, but it affects the rest of us as well; most local authorities are looking to TfL for a lead on this sort of thing, or so my tame MAG rep tells me. :smt014 |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
Don't propose to know much about how things work n the real world but....
If they rule against bikes in the bus lane, is there any chance of bringing either a class action for endangerment of life out against TfL or the mayor's office with or without backing from the HSE? Or it that just dreaming in fairy land that the law could actually be used by anyone for betterment rather than purely by politicans to shaf* us again and again....LOL |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
We had reports early last year that a trial would be starting here in June 07 so come that date I started using the bus lanes and got no bother from any Police, despite the fact that in September the local rag had a report saying it was starting then! Whoops!
Tis working out great here, I get to mix filtering with riding the empty lane during rush hour traffic, no better way to travel at that time of the day! |
Re: Trial of Motorbikes is bus lanes
I can't imagine that the council would vindictively prevent bikes from using bus lanes; but there has been so many of these trials across the country, all with the same positive results. What would their motive be to prevent it happening? I wonder if the BMF could lauch a lawsuit against the council for failing to take steps to prevent accidents when their own report states the benefit. This is a world of proving you've taken the necessary steps nowadays and they obviously aren't acting for the benefit of the majority.
Screw getting to work quicker; if I can avoid filtering through towns in the morning rush hour when everyones asleep/aggressive/late I will. Tarmac is pretty nails stuff. |
