Re: CSS1 - Rockingham
Level One is a lot of fun, the marker crosses seem so difficult to hit each & every time. Then when it clicks you wonder how you rode at all before. I have done Level One 3 times and Level 2 twice I think. It still teaches something new and gives you a load of confidence.
I bet you noticed Ed how quick you thought you were going, but the riding coaches just embarrass you as they watch you, catch you, pass you and then instruct you with a tap on the tail or their head. before dissappearing into the distance. Anybody who hasnt been should try it, it is not the cheapest but you will learn more than on any track day. |
Re: CSS1 - Rockingham
Yep Malc you're right. Badger was the coach - he was going round corners at warp speed while watching me over his shoulder. It was fantastic to watch him. Much more confident now. Just been over to Ironbridge with John and Daryl, it's a superbly twisty road over there and I was trying out some of the advice. It works:D but it'd be great if Shropshire County Council put yellow Xs on the turn points;)
Blue - glad I got the tyres the right way round! I fully expected the bike to be all over the place with such soft tyres but there was another learning thingy. I ain't taking the bike to London and paying through the nose. No way hosay. I'm gonna experiment:D |

You seem to be anti supercorsas ... implying they don;t heat up and that they are too soft to grip ... to me, first there was sliced bread, good idea ... the not a lot happened for a long while ... and then Mr P invented supercorsas!! :D To be honest, just setting the 'sag' correctly makes a massive difference alone! ... get that done (again, loads or articles for how to do that and how much it should be) and then set all damper adjusters back to 'factory' and 'twiddle' from there :) |

Re: CSS1 - Rockingham
Although the CSS is not a trackday, you do learn a lot about your bike and gain confidence. especially when you start, 2 gears, no brakes, etc.
Although there are pictures of crashed bikes at Rockingham it is a fairly forgiving track with a lot of space to run off. I find the cambers wierd to start with but again once you master them, confidence grows. I am slightly biased as my Brother was tested to be a riding coach with them before he died. Oh and technically, it is just a lower START pressure! ... the idea of dropping them down is because more heat is generated in the tyre at track pace, this therefore heats the air inside the tyre ... increasing pressure inside the tyre ... the idea is that the same 'running' pressure is achieved as if you started off at higher pressure, but didn't heat the tyres/air so much ;) |
