So I'll learn with you, OK?

And we'll start a thread, 'The Golf Thread':p

Sounds like a good idea, and this is exactly why i think i should learn.

Do it. (hopefully it won't get locked out) my threads have a habit of doing that lately, but this one is quite serious !

Thats not very nice Vicky, Gid was only trying to offer some constructive advice, which I must say is quite correct....

You cant tip up at the driving range without the proper equipment can you now?

On a serious non hijacking manner.......get your self some clubs, then go to a driving range, you can buy a full set for next to nothing these days. Or, can contact your local club and ask when they are running the next intro course. They do that at my old mans club for all beginners.

If it gets you time off work then do it. You can only try and if you don't like it then stop. Simple ;)

You are already getting offers of others wanting to join you in your quest to learn

That was aimed at neio.

But this IS a serious post.

I think I will just book a day a driving range and see how I get on, I will probably get annoyed after about and hour an give up, but you never know.

When my parents retired and then seemingly had to take up the infernal game.

They just rang round a few local clubs in the the yellow pages to see who was running any kind of beginners course. It's probably the cheapest way to learn as you can generally find they include club hire etc so you don't have to fork out for kit you may end up wanting to wrap round the nearest lampost. ;)

As for learning the rules - they are pretty basic, as is the system of scoring... it's all the golf-slang like 'Birdies' and 'Eagles' etc that take time to learn.

Vickster, it is harder than it looks, but well worth doing, I used to find it really relaxing. The other thing is, the driving range is great for bashing the balls, but an intro day where you actually get to putt and play the course is more worthwhile.
