tbh if someone broke your car would you want to claim of your insurance for something that wasnt your fault.

Certainly not at 17
Next year's insurance would be ridiculous

We have asked the guy about claiming on his insurance, but he has said he wants to do it without informing them due to him writing off a car recently, and doesnt want to hurt his excess or something stupid.
Do you think it would be wrong to offer him the excess amount, and leave it up to him to choose between repairing it himself, or handing it over to the insurers?

I'd only pay him what it would actually cost to get it fixed (takes any high excess/insurance spike out of the equation)

Yea, i think thats the best idea. Its not my mates fault that the guy trashed a car recently, just unfortunate. Will have to do a bit of phoning around tomorrow.
I wouldnt have thought a windscreen would be too much more than £200 fitted??

Phone a decent company that replaces windscreens and windows.
Get them to quote you a price, tell them to send you a email with conformation of a estimation or something like that.
Pay the guy that, not the 500 that he just he took off the top of his head, hoping to make a few ££ out of the situation..
