The FI int. kit seems to be worse on the thous and on IL4s. It seems the 650 copes alright with the excess fuel in most cases.

Keep an eye on ebay, they usually go for about £40-£50 there.

I had exactly the same problem when I got my 2004 SV650s. I went to the dealer and was like WTF that's ridiculous, there's no way I could afford or would want to pay over £300 for a restricted ECU and for fitting.

From what I've heard, don't use the FI kit. Seems logical that it is a bad idea to do, as the ECU won't know it's there and could foul the plugs/mess up the mixture in the long run, thats what it seems like.

Here's what to do:

Get a restricted ECU from Ebay or the for sale section on this forum (I got mine from there) second hand for £40. Then all you need to do is unbolt the seat, and just behind the battery is the ECU, lift it up, unplug it, and plug in the restricted one.

DONE. Easy, cost me £40. To think, some people must have paid a dealer to do it... Two words,

If the problems with the FI int. kit are going to occur on your bike then it will occur pretty much straight away. Plugs don't take a long time to rich foul. It will not do damage over time either.

Basically, it either is a problem, or it isn't.

If bike is sloppy rich and runs crap, fit the ECU, if not leave it be.

But common sense would tell you that restricting these tye of bikes is a stupid idea, oh... wait, FI aren't that bright anyway.

Did you buy the bike from them?


Not many people seem to realise but the Suzuki restrictor kit has always been free (inc fitting) if you bought a Suzuki motorcycle from an authorised Suzuki dealer, whether a new or secondhand SV650. Some dealers started to charge for the kit when Suzuki stopped advertising it, hence why at the beginning of last year Suzuki reconfirmed the kits were free.

I will also point out that you are supposed to be supplied with the full power components for when you are entitled to go to full power, Suzuki will charge for fitting though.

Dunno, some of the smaller fours seem alright with it, and the ones in a moderate state of tune (600Fs, teapots, bandits etc.) But most of those are propa' bikes with carbs on!

Just to add once again before anyone gets the wrong idea. With CV carbs the restricting washers from FI work fine.

Aye, avoid the screamers of big twins if you are restricting an engine. The little 400cc V4's are great fun restricted let alone full power, a little cramped for us taller riders though.

+ 1, best to clear that up.

Another reason FI international all need a good hoofing in the balls... they will quite happily sell you a restrictor kit for a bike which puts less than 33bhp to the wheel as standard.
