unless the pillion knows what they're doing it's better to tell them to sit like a sack of potatoes and do nothing, and absolutely never lean out of a turn

other than that it's just about working out a communication method, i usually say "jab in the left kidney for slow down, stop or a negatiove response, jab in the right for go faster, ready to go or positive response"

take it easy when riding, especially if your pillion is new, ride like you would in the rain, slow down and speed up gradually, if you open the throttle sharply and your pillion isn't ready it's not unheard of for them to simply slide off the back

oh, and asking a bloke to grasp you tightly with his thighs isn't gay when he's going pillion...

is it???

Ouch... i probably wouldn't want to overtake, i'd rather ride slow with a pillion. I might try a wheelie though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoCjfOUUb4U

I wasn't planning on giving a bloke a lift... i would find it a bit ghey. Besides i wouldn't feel comfortable taking anyone heavier than me on the back.

If your pillion isn't comfortable with using the rail then they can use the tank to push against when you brake, that is assuming you don't mind them having their arms around you. Grab rail can kill the wrists after a while with all the braking, I swear my right arm muscles were bigger than my left for a while :-). If your pillion can quickly get used to your method of riding, then hopefully just by gripping with the knees will suffice. This is the best way in my opinion as you flow more with the bike and rider.

You must have nerves of steel, I tried riding pillion, got upto 20mph and shat myself, had to stop. And YC's riding style has been hinted at lol.

Not at all, I just like to go quick hehe. It's not about how fast you go with a pillion, it's about how much that pillion is willing to trust the rider and the bike. Although obviously speeding along is not going to make you popular with a pillion who's new to it, then you will just have sore kidneys :-D .

If the pillion is convinced that any leaning of the bike is going to cause the bike to topple or braking is going to shoot him/her off the back then it's just not going to work, he/she needs to be completely familiar with all that goes on.

How much does she value her life.... lol.

YC doesn't let me on the back without my full gear, so leathers too even if we're just popping up the road.. But of course it depends on what you feel is appropriate!

I need some dragging jeans!
