Yeh i tried that, haha :p... one on either end but it just won't budge at all.

Someone said something about trying to lift the engine with someone just maybe a couple of mm off the ground? Shouldn't it just come out?

I used a breaker bar (an extra long socket bar) for extra leverage. Came undone without too much drama then.

I'd go for a quick spin to get the engine nice and warm then or if you can't do that then get a heat gun on it.

I think heat makes metal shrink and cold makes it expand

Infact I'm pretty sure that's right.

I fitted my R&G ones after riding home from work so the engine was warm.

Mind you don't burn yourself though.

Yeh i tried warming it up but that's a neat idea. Bike's off the road anyway so a ride's out of the question but a nice long idle won't do any harm!!

Thanks for your help people, replied quicker than i could read.

that's wrong liam lol. Heat makes it expand cold makes it shrink. Either way a bit of heating and cooling will inspire some movement I would have thought .
BTW liam I've got those bars out for you took some pictures too if you want em.

Completely wrong  Heat makes metal expand.....

From Thingus' description, sounds like the nut is on really tight and he cannot shift it. A breaker bar will help with this as you get a LOT more leverage.

in that case I wouldn't bother leaving an engine to idle for more than 5minutes can do harm I think. Best just eat some spinach or buy a bigger breaker bar/extend yours. I wouldn't try it with a ratchet might stress the mechanism a bit much.
