Thanks for all the input guys im deffinately going to start wearing ear plugs when out on a long run now. Im going to have a look at the shoei xr1000 need to try one on in the shops then buy online tho as the price difference is silly. Im also going to try the shark rsr2 as i had a look at one this morning and it seemed really light, appart from them i'll just do as suggested and go to a shop and try all the different lids to compare fit and comfort.

I've just bought me an RST Cobravent Volt, and I have found this helmet nice an d quiet indeed.

With the visor fully closed the air vents do there job to a treat, and so visor misting, until you stop at lights and it begins a little misting at the top. As soon as you take off though...all is well and the visor clears itself.

Haven't managed to get it on the motorway yet, and see what it's like at speeds of 60+, but will comment soon.

Plus it got a sharp rating of 4 out of 5 for safety.

Open face helmets tend to be the quietest ones, especilally "Davida Jet". It's quite snug so you won't even need earplugs. But if open face is not your style then just go for earplugs.

I had HJC FG-14(still have it as a spare) and that was quiet, especially compared to my new one a shark RS1 but even that's not to bad. The HJC was the most comfortable thing i ever wore though. A hell of a lot more coforatble than the shark. But you might find that you dont like plugs i refuse to wear them they annoy me no end and i dont have the cash to get some special made ones. But if you have the money get some custom ones made

Fair comment that banditpat some people will find earplugs uncomfortable, fortunately i wear them alot at work i have found the ones which look like rubarb and custard sweet fit most comfortable and they're cheap when you buy in bulk.

I know which ones you mean, shame they dont stay in my ears, prolly because i have ears that make me resemble a wingnut when i shave my head. Oh well

You could try stretching an elastic band around your head so that it keeps the plugs in :lol:

Ha and another one to keep my ears pinned back?. I think i'll stick with my no ear plugs or my iPod at the moment
