If they're a higher spec of any kind, will they not need more fluid to function? Either way, I'd have thought an SV1000 lever and master cylinder would be needed to properly operate the calipers.

It makes no difference if there is 4 pistons or two pistons, both work exactly same. Only one side is calculated. If pistons are different size that will make difference.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, but I posted that 2yrs ago?!

Calipers are on the road bike now, as the track bike became my race bike and these calipers aren't allowed in MiniTwins.

Culprit was indeed a binding dust seal on r/hand caliper. Quite corroded in there it was! All cleaned with new seals worked a treat.

Hope the thread is of use to someone though.
