If it is related to a job then they will ring back / keep trying to get hold of you :) so dont fret dear spidey..!

For example, when I was offered a new job a few weeks ago I had five missed calls from a private number. Luckily on the 6th call, I managed to answer my phone in time!

They may target O2 users if they know that O2 won't block malicious calls. O2 claim that blocking these numbers could degrade their service, especially at busy times. Other mobile operators seem quite happy to block numbers.

There is a scam going round, if someone asks you to dial #09 or 90 while they are talking to you DONT - some way they can access your SIM card apparently. Not sure how.

thats good to know Woozle, thanks.

And for the record i'm on Asda mobile  Cheapest PAYG and no anoying advertising text or promos about top up this much and get a zillion texts for free. And the use the O2 network hence the call. My handeset allows me to block numbers anyway so do most handsets i thought, no?

Sick of hearing about that thing

Spidey put the number in your phone and name it something like DONT ANSWER. I've had the same one call me a couple of times. I read somewhere it is to see if the number is still active...

Not particularly a myth just well out of context. It was a phreaking thing to get routed out to an external line from some switchboards meaning you could call whereever on whoevers switchboard it was' bill.
