I'd quite happily do without a TV, but she couldn't so I'm stuck with it.

I don't agree with the licence either, nor with the outright threats they use.

Once you find a good series, you never miss an episode and there is always something good to watch when you want (without adverts too!)
Well worth an extra £216 on top of the £142

I think a hard disc recorder with freeview, (they all do as far as I can tell, most have DVD player/recorder too), is a better option, all the clever tricks of Sky+ including timeshift and series recording, and no subscription. Whether the Sky programming is worth the money depends upon what you like to watch of course, there may be some good stuff on - but those I know who have Sky tell me they still mostly watch the terrestrial channels.

I tried that route and it wasn't nearly as good in it's operation. Maybe I didn't spend enough on the freeview recorder, I guess it's too easy to pay a smallish monthly fee to Sky/Virgin than a bigger one off outlay on equipment.
Anyway, with my free broadband and cheaper calls from them I'm happy. I'm not a big Sky watcher, but couldn't live without 24 :)

My days would be a lot more productive without a TV.

I have no self control and the off button never seems to work :^o

I have to agree with Stu, Sky+ is the business. We don't get good Freeview coverage in my neck of the woods. The only thing I dislike about Sky is the cost. But we can't get out the Cinema, so the HD movie or Sky Box Office channel is the next best thing. At least I don't have to put up with people and noisy sweet bags or mobiles at home.

Just waiting for the Band of Brothers Pacific story to show, then my HD drive will start filling up :p

Add together all your time at a reasonable hourly rate (mines £25ph), then add the telephone calls and annoyance over 12 months and it will probably work out at about £142.50 ;)

Ignore them, they have no power to do anything. Or threaten them back :-) Ive been there.

Here is another thread about it, with me having a moan on page two.

Anything presented by Attenborough
The 'Life' series was worth the licence fee alone this year. In fact as I type the DVD player is showing 'Life of Birds', I bought if for the cat for Christmas and he loves it - not that he contributes towards the cost of the licence of course.

And watching England beat South Africa in the Test yesterday justified the cost of Sky Sports this month and I don't even watch all the football they show.

We got that for Christmas as well, the cat is not fussed about it. The only thing that gets him off the sofa is food or the Famous Grouse ads
