and not being able to get into work because of traveling risks isn't a good enough reason to get rid of you, and tbh i dont think many trucks are going to be heading in so work should be quiet anyway.

I work 16 miles away, about 13inches of snow outside at the moment on my drive.

Its all about the 6 P's;

I sorta had the same attitude from the place i last worked at. You need to always have a plan B.

Difficult though isnt it. Theres only so much you can do. Persoanlly speaking when I was a manager, I would never expect my staff to put their lives at risk just to get to work. Mind you they'd have to have a darn good reason i.e. alot of snow or lack of suitable transport options before I'd say OK dont bother.

Liz has a 60 mile each way commute. She made it in in February only to be told "We're shutting in a while so you can all go home again" which is kinda frustrating if you have just spent two hours struggling through the snow to get in.

She said to me earlier. "If it snows tomorrow I am not going in, its not worth it", but shes also brought work home with her so she can work from home instead...

Yes it is bad for them to try and force you to ride in this weather or get a taxi, but agancys are usually just casual labour anyway.

If you dont go in, someone else probably will.

*Note for future* Call in sick and dont use the weather as an excuse.

Good luck with them anyway.

Sorry to say it but kinda +1 unless there is any employment law to say this is illegal.
You say you will earn less tonight than the cost of a taxi. But will the cost of a taxi be more than all your future earnings there for as long as you work there?
When the storms meant there were no trains for me to get to work I was told to get a taxi for te 40 miles to work (fortunately tey said they would pay) But I couldn't find a taxi company willing to drive me the 40 miles the roads were so bad - I would use that excuse if it's true?

I've just got a call from one of my diretors, saying to give him a call in the morning and he will have a look to see if its worth going in.
He lives in walsall so will have an idea of how much snow there is where I'm working.
I told him I left for work at about 6 and he just said " Call me, if we need to, we will shut the site".

Just goes to show how different peoples attitudes can be.

Yeah my boss sent us home on the 22nd when we had bad snow, this was before any of the other company was sent home and told me to cover the bike, leave it here and she'll sort out how to get me home.

Its only a 30 min walk, so I walked instead, but still, different people, different attitudes.
