If you spend as much as buying a new one :-P

Add up how much money you've spent on tyres and gaffer tape over the last three years...you'll have spent twice as much as what you paid for your bike.

As others have said... Make sure you have good kit first and then put the rest towards the bike.

A lunatics comparison. If you can think of a way to do miles WITHOUT spending money on tyres I would love to hear it.

Never mind Chris, its gone over your head.

I was just using that as 'one example' of how much biking can cost.

Well, 40000 miles with a new rear tyre like every 7k, that's £600 on rear tyres, front one every 9k or so, £350 on fronts.

Worth every penny!

Indeed it is! but some don't expect that do they.
TBH biking isn't as cheap as it used to be....but to the younger end, its still better than attempting to insure an old banger of a car :-)

Thanks for advice guys, a pre reg does look attractive when you consider savings on MOT etc etc...

I am in Twickenham: West london Suzuki and Daytona appear to be the biggest local dealers, but no pre reg.... is there somewhere you can search specifically for pre reg? I dont mind travelling millions of miles.

There's a George White's in Slough. Blayes (SP?) Twickenham if it's still there (close to kneller hall). TBH every one of my bikes have been brought privately 2nd hand so don't know anything much about their reps.
