Try TREK, theyre very good, mine only broke in two cause i wrapped it round a tree. And £500 will get you a decent one, with rockshoxs suspension and shimano gears

I have a giant 4.5 XTC its the dog i reckon, tho its alot cheaper here than i paid too.

Got a Cube Acid with rockshox forks, shiman deore gears and discs fornt and back - thats nice - really light

Why not take a look at the old horse? I still ride an old rigid from about 15 years ago, but it wasn't a bad thing then and so is still quite rideable. If I could be bothered I'd think about a replacement but as long as I get out and ride it I'm happier than not! Worth a look I'd say.
