What 'big bike' did you do your test on ?
Didnt that feel heavier than the 125 ?
Cb500 ?

Don't feel bad. I dropped mine on Day 2 and again about 2 weeks later. Is my first bike after passing my test. Although I have had mine lowered now which made a huge difference. It just takes a bit of time to get used to having something large and heavy instead of the light and small you made be used to. Regarding parking and moving the bike just be really weary of moving on full lock.....

Dropped my SV 3 times in my 1st year.

Once turning into a garage for fuel, bank holiday ride ruined.

Once stationary in my garage with me on it then under it and my luggage.

And once in France halfway through a trip to the Alps.

Just be glad you didn't buy a desmodecci as a first bike ;) Live and learn, all sound like low/no speed incidents where damage to pride is greater than damage to the bike. Crash bungs are handy too.

How long did it take you guys to get used to the sv from a 125,my 125 was a very upright riding position, the sv is quiet sporty so not sure if im just learning how to handle it.Should I just take the fairings off. What should I do to get used to the handling more is it a matter of just getting out on country roads.

Find yourself a quiet gravel free road/carpark and practice your emergency controlled stops at various speeds, this may stop you grabbing a fist full of front brake next time.

You could also practice your turning by placing some markers on the ground. The SV's turning circle is a lot larger than the test bike you rode for your test.

This may sound like your going backwards in your learning but will help you know your bike better.

Did my test on a xj6 so this is a feather compared, just a completly different riding position.Whilst on here Ive go new indicators but to fit do I need to take of the fairing,Its a k4 pointy.

Is there anyway I can buff out the scratches on the fender, its not that bad should I just put up with it.Bobbins are on

Just put up with it for now. No point putting the effort into tidying up cosmetic scratches and then dropping it again! Once you're happier and more confident with things, that's when it's worth trying to make permanent cosmetic repairs.

It took me a year to drop my first bike, and then I dropped it twice in a fortnight. Have had the (lighter) SV since September, and dropped it 3 times! Don't worry about it, just bodge up and keep going! Practising slow-control round a car-park or something would be a good plan though.

If the scratches are small get some Autosol Scratch Remover from ebay... great stuff for hiding scratches on metal... haven't tried it on plastics yet.

took me a while and to be totally honest not passed long ago either and i would say i have had 5 dropps all standing still pretty much.

but almost lost it countless times but been lucky. tip if unsure put both legs out, you may feel a **** doing it but look more of a **** on the floor thats what i say.

wait until you get someone heavier than you on the back as a pillion, that takes alot of skill, and still just a beginner at that technique. and i am about 8 stone and fairly short in height so its really hard for me lol

+1 and it worked for me. Spent my first few SV rides in Sainsburys car park doing just that, when they were closed and it was nice and quiet - and I have never dropped any bike. I'm dreading the day that I do :(

It took me a while to get used to the sudden jump in weight and the different riding position in the SV. I went from a YBR to a SV, so stick at it! I currently ride a DL650 and when I sat on the SV after riding the Strom a month or so the SV felt really small and light! I'm female and about 5'6 so I'm no long legged giant.

As other hav already said, there is no shame in sticking a leg out for a bit of support ( ie. if your parking up in a car park, or a u turn at slow speeds in garages) if your feeling a bit unstable at low speeds till you get more confident - I'd rather look like a bit of a tit shiny side up than a bit of tit lying on ther tarmac :p
