I have discovered that I'm fairly un-fussy about brands but prefer my pressures high. Other people will disagree with me and say tyre brand is all-important, and low pressures are better. Both have found a setup they're happy with :)

Jambo

I'll step up and disagree with you :)

Some tyres, setups etc you HAVE to set the pressures where they want to be or you'll get tearing and destroy them.

Don't know how much you weigh or how many miles bike has done but at three years old, it's always worth changing the fork oil anyways.

Cheap at £10(if done yourself) and certainly would bring some gain.

I'd leave ythe fancy talk to other lol . I like nice bouncy bits but I also try not to blame the 'tools' too much.

if I may ask, how long have you been riding? Is the SV650 your first big(ish) lol bike you've owned/ridden?

Aint had the pleasure of them! I won't get into setups etc in this thread!

Bike has done 6000 miles. I've been riding for a year as in my first post but only had the SV for a month and yes, it's my first "big" bike so I appreciate that I'm still going to be getting used to it for some time yet hence why I was asking if it's likely to be my tyres or just me being crap :)

Is the suspension clonks just something that most people live with? Should I just get used to it rather than start messing with the bike?

In a nuit shell, yup, stop thinking aboput fraffing about with the bike...plenty of time for that....and just ride it.

A change of fork oil as mentioned above would be nice though.

EDIT: You posted as I was typing out this post.

Would adjusting the preload affect clonking?

yorkie_chris 13-12-10 12:15 AM

Re: Grip - or more like the lack of it.

Affect it maybe, but not stop it.

Might prevent some of the bottoming, but not a cure as it is the soft springs and no comp. damping that cause it.

Reason i ask was if its new to him (big bikes and riding) he may have not set up preload for him.
